A) Introduction to Book
1) The Title of this novel is Catwoman: Soulstealer
2) The author of the book is Sarah J. Maas
3) The two genres of the book are Adventure fiction, and the other
having a strange name, “Bildungsroman.” This strange genre
focuses on the psychological and moral growth of the
protagonist.
B) Review of the Elements of Fiction
1) It was told in 3rd person Point Of View, because it said he, she,
him, her and the character’s name.
2) The mood of the novel is Mysterious, but yet Sad.
3) Setting:
a) Catwoman: Soulstealer is set in the present era or
2018-ish, and also in the fictional city of Gotham. The city
is partly based on New York City.
4) Character:
a) The two Protagonists are Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, and
Luke Fox aka Batwing. Selina was a person of felony, but
by the end, she became someone of unspeakable
perseverance. While Luke was a person that struggled
under his PTSD, but gradually overcame his traumatic
memories.
b) The Antagonist is Nyssa al Ghūl . She is the villain of this
story, because she’s such a static character, staying with
her arrogant perspective of the world and her plans.
5) Conflict:
a) The external conflict is the League of Assassins, or
League of Shadows, or the S ociety of Shadows. They’re
against Selina’s actions of stealing the most valuable
weapon in the world that was once in their possession.
Person vs. Society.
b) The internal conflict is with another main character, who’s
Luke Fox. Luke has P
TSD from his time in the field
because he was a Marine soldier.
6) Theme Statement:
People sometimes go to extremes to save their families.
This is specifically applying to Selina, because she did everything she
could to save her sister, who was suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. A
disease that affects the lungs and other places. It makes breathing
really difficult, and is also incurable. The League tried to kill Selina for
trying to use the most valuable weapon to save her sister. Selina even
killed for the survival of her sister.

D) Evaluation of the Book
1) Strengths: The novel had many strengths. One being the
narrative the author chose. Using the League was a wise choice,
since they’re such a good Batman villain. Another strength being
that Selina had a much more interesting role than I anticipated.
I really liked how the author showed us that even Selina can be
related to.
2) Weaknesses: The novel also had a prominent weakness amongst
its characters. I really hated that Poison Ivy was too humane. In
every other form of media, whether it’s comics, or even video
games, Ivy hated humanity, because of how they experimented
on her. But, she liked specific humans, one being Selina, and
another being Harley Quinn. But, in the novel, she was way too
friendly to everyone, even from the beginning.
