1. OVERVIEW
1.1 Overview

VARIANALG: Used as an alternative to potentiometers and synchronizers, the VS-1AN-1-V1PG (hereafter

referred to as “VS-1AN”) features an ABSOCODER sensor for rotational angle or linear position detection,
with the detected position being output as analog voltage.

[Features]

(1) Analog voltage output can be set as desired

A selectable detection range and output voltage range enables use in a wide range of applications.
Settings can be specified by key input (similar to a digital switch format), or by using the “teaching”
function.

(2) Easy position setting

Position settings can be specified from the control panel or by external inputs, permitting easy machine
adjustments.

(3) Limit switch output function

Maximum/minimum position limit switch outputs are possible, eliminating the need for other switches.

(4) Durable ABSOCODER sensor

NSD’s unique ABSOCODER position sensor is designed to withstand vibration, shocks, severe temperature,
oil, and dust, etc..

(5) No origin-point return required when power is interrupted

An absolute angle detection format eliminates cumulative error, and does away, with the need for origin-
point returns when the power supply is interrupted.

4. INSTALLATION
The installation conditions and precautions for each of the system components are described in this section.

4.1 Controller Installation Conditions & Precautions

- Installation Site
(1) Avoid sites where the unit is exposed to direct sunlight.
(2) The ambient temperature should never exceed a 0-55℃ range.
(3) The ambient humidity should never exceed a 20-90% RH range.
(4) Do not install the unit in areas where condensation is likely to occur (high humidity with extreme temperature
changes).
(5) Avoid sites where dust is excessive.
(6) Do not install in areas with an excessive amount of salt and/or metal chips.
(7) Do not install in areas where flammable and/or corrosive gases are present.
(8) Avoid areas where splashing water, oil or chemicals is likely to occur.
Controller
(9) Avoid areas where vibration and shocks are excessive.

- Installation Precautions
(1) The unit should firmly secured by two M4 bolts.
(2) Noise prevention measures should be taken.
85 or more
- Install as far as possible from high-voltage lines and power lines.
- Mount on a grounded metal plate.
(3) A space of approximately 85 mm is required in front of the Controller to plug in and unplug the connectors.

4.2 ABSOCODER Sensor Installation Conditions & Precautions

Installation of rotary type ABSOCODER sensor

(1) Do not subject the sensor to excessive

shocks and unbalanced loads.

(2) If connected to a shaft, a coupling format

should be used.
Coupling

For the installation conditions and precautions for ABSOCODER sensor, refer to “ABSOCODER Handling
Guide”. This manual is available upon request.

- Wiring Precautions

(1) The sensor cable should be clamped as shown at right to

prevent excessive tension from being applied to the cable
connectors. Cable clamp

(2) The sensor cable should be located as far as possible from

power lines and other lines which enerate a high level of
electrical noise.

75mm
(3) If the cable movement (when used at moving component) is such or more

that it is bent into a U-shape, a robotic cable or a heat-resistant

cable should be used.
The bend radius should never be less than 75 mm.

9
5.2 Power Supply Connection

(1) Power Supply

- Rush current amount when power is turned ON: 10A max (rush time of 20ms)
- Power supply capacity should be selected twice as large as power consumption.
- The input power supply should be isolated from the commercial power supply (power supply furnished
by the power company).
- Use the R3 type crimp lug terminals with insulating sleeves in order to prevent shorting caused by
loose screws.
- The power cable should be as thick as possible to minimize voltage drops.
- Twist the power cable.

(2) Ground
- The unit should be securely grounded (ground resistance of 100 ohm or less) to prevent electrical
shocks.
- The ground cable should be as thick as possible.

- Signal name & description

Signal name Description
This signal changes the analog voltage output corresponding to a current position angle
to the value specified by a parameter setting (C.P: Center Position voltage setting).
Input C.P IN
When this signal input occurs with the machine at its reference position, the voltage
output is changed to the specified setting value.
This signal is output when in the RUN mode, with the controller and sensor statuses
RUN
normal.
Compares the current position angle and the setting value, and outputs the ON/OFF
LS1,2
Output signals accordingly. Used for Max./Min. limits.
Outputs the analog voltage for a given current position angle in accordance with the
VOUT
parameter setting.
MON. Outputs the same analog voltage as VOUT. (For monitor)

Important
- When using the position voltage outputs for control purposes within the user-responsible range,
be sure that the response, resolution, and accuracy settings are appropriate.
- The position voltage outputs are not insulated. When the input common for the position voltage
outputs is shared with an AC phase, or when its status is unknown, be sure to connect the outputs via
insulating amplifier to prevent the risk of fires, electrical shocks, and ground fault as shown below.
