STATEMENT FROM HEIDI SIECK, CO-FOUNDER/CEO OF #VOTEPROCHOICE

ON ABORTION BAN

New York, NY – After the Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced that
Ohio Abortion Clinics must stop performing procedures, #VOTEPROCHOICE
co-founder/CEO Heidi Sieck released the following statement:

The Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is threatening our reproductive freedom by
ordering abortion clinics to stop performing procedures immediately and falsely
claiming that abortion is an elective procedure. Let me clarify this misinformation:
abortion is not an elective procedure, it is an essential component of
comprehensive health care. It’s insidious for anti-choice lawmakers to use a time of
crisis to restrict abortion and reproductive care when every moment matters greatly
to the patient’s ability to access the service.

Abortion is a time-sensitive service and any kind of delay could put a patient at risk
or prohibit them from accessing care altogether. This procedure is vitally important
to a patient’s health and well-being, and clearly now is not the time to use politics
to further the anti-choice movement. We cannot predict the long-term ramifications
of such a decision and fear this will set a dangerous precedent for other states to
follow. Patients must have access to reproductive care during this time -- that
should be non-negotiable.

#VOTEPROCHOICE is calling for the immediate reversal of this decision and urging
the prochoice majority to call the Ohio Attorney General’s office at 800-282-0515 or
tweet @Yost4Ohio to express how this decision is an attack on reproductive
freedom.
