Today's readings discuss how Christians are called to be "salt of the earth" and "light of the world" by actively spreading the Good News through good works. The Gospel passage from Matthew has Jesus telling his disciples this directly. The homily likely expands on how believers can fulfill this role in their daily lives and bring glory to God despite living in a complex world. The prayers ask God for wisdom and grace to follow Christ's teachings, empower clergy and seminarians to share the gospel, and care for the sick, aged, and marginalized.
