1. Based on our survey, the topmost waste material in Meycauayan City,
Bulacan is plastic bottles. Lots of articles and research studies said that 3R
(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is the most effective solution to reduce plastic bottles.
And with that, implementing "Single-use Plastic Bottles Banned" will lessen the
plastic (bottles) waste pollution. Single-use plastics are goods that are made
primarily from fossil fuel–based chemicals (petrochemicals) and are meant to be
disposed of right after use—often, in mere minutes. Single-use plastics are most
commonly used for packaging and serviceware, such as bottles, wrappers,
straws, and bags. And to prevent disposing plastic bottles and to reduce wastes,
the following rules to execute the Single-use Plastic Bottles Banned plan must
follow:
•Do not buy single-use plastic bottles. Instead, keep a refillable or reusable
bottle handy.
•Make fresh squeezed juice or eat fruit instead of buying juice in plastic bottles.
It's healthier and better for the environment.
•Direct companies should redesign products and packaging into a reusable
one.
•Give incentives to reuse, refill and other alternative delivery systems.
2. A large number of vehicles on roads, airplanes flying over houses,
underground trains produce heavy noise and people get it difficult to get
accustomed to that. The high noise leads to a situation wherein a normal person
loses the ability to hear properly. Thus, transportation is one of the causes of
noise pollution and it affects daily chores, hearing ability, health, sleeping
schedules, animals and communication. And to reduce noise pollution, these
are the following steps:
•Banning pressure horns in automobiles.
•Increased distance between source and receiver by zoning of noisy industrial
areas, bus terminals and railway stations, aerodromes etc. away from the
residential areas would go a long way in minimising noise pollution. There should
be silence zones near the residential areas, educational institutions and above
all, near hospitals.
•Using silencers to control noise from automobiles, ducts, exhausts etc. and
convey systems with ends opening into the atmosphere.
•Planting green trees and shrubs along roads, hospitals, educational institutions
etc. help in noise reduction to a considerable extent.
3. Land pollution is the deterioration of the land surfaces, often directly or
indirectly as a result of man’s activities and misuse of land resources. Evidently, it
is because of agricultural, construction and industrial wastes, ashes, mining, left
overs, garbage, deforestation, chemicals and oils. And to prevent land pollution
the first thing that is needed to do is to inform the masses how bad it affects our
daily lives. It affects ecosystem, water resources, vegetation, health and
environment. With that, I came up with a plan that every barangay should have
seminar about proper waste disposal and new rules to reduce land pollution. To
successfully execute the plan, the following steps must obey:
•Communicate with your community about the said seminar about Proper
Waste Management.
•Talk about the importance of proper waste management in their day to day
activities.
•Discuss about the advantages of reducing land pollution.
•Announce the new rules about lessening land pollution.
•Motivate the residents to have a community service in your barangay.
4. Conserving water is important because it keeps water pure and clean while
protecting the environment. Conserving water means using our water supply
wisely and being responsible. As every individual depends on water for
livelihood, we must learn how to keep our limited supply of water pure and
away from pollution. And these are the 12 ways to conserve water and to use it
productively:
•Don’t use the toilet as an ashtray or wastebaskets.
•Install low or dual flush models
•Use clothes washer for only full loads
•Consider a high efficiency washing machine
•Install water-saving showerheads, shower timers, and low-flow faucet aerators
•Turn off the shower after soaping up, then turn it back on to rinse.
•Turn off the water after you wet your toothbrush
•Minimize use of kitchen sink garbage disposal units
•When washing dishes by hand, don't leave the Water running for rinsing
•Check faucets and pipes for leaks
•Insulate your water pipes; and
•Recycle your water where you can
5. COVID-19 is a respiratory disease. It was first reported in China in December
2019. Common symptoms of COVID-19 include a fever, cough, and shortness of
breath. These symptoms may occur 2 to 14 days after being exposed to the
virus. Most people who come down with COVID-19 have mild symptoms. These
symptoms can make you feel like you have the flu. However, some people have
more severe symptoms. In these cases, the virus may lead to pneumonia. To
avoid the transmission of the said pandemic, here are the ways that we must
follow:
•Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When
soap and running water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand rub with at
least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands that are visibly soiled.
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
•Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
•Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene.
This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when
you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
•If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early; and
•Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice
given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health
authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from
COVID-19.
