FA356- Sculpture

Assignment Brief

In this sculpture course the students are required to use the method of assemblages
between two different objects to create a third, novel form. They will work with the
technique of assemblage as an additive process and use objects which already have
strong symbolic associations, there can also be repetition of the same form or
multiple objects used in a form of assemblage. The final form then will be used as
a source/ reference to do explore subtract iv e process through wo od carving
Two techniques will be introduced: additive and subtractive. The course will
familiarise the students with already present examples of the mentioned techniques
in art practises and our surro undings. Special attention will b e given on the
development of conceptual intent and technical skills to achieve sculptural
objectives.

 Understanding the assignment brief


 Specific attention to process work and drawings
 Understanding the possibilities and limitation of the materials.
 Understanding of three-dimensional materials, techniques, processes and concepts to make
sculptural objects.
 Demonstrate basic knowledge of 3D sculpture and its processes
 Learn to maintain tools (manual and power tools)
 Learn to adhere to safety procedures in the studio
 Create sculpture using the manipulative method of construction
 Research on local and international artists working with sculpture
 Learn to source materials and conduct research in the market
 Learn to refer to books in the library for research development
 Maintain studio etiquette in terms of safety gear, punctuality and attendance and attentiveness.

Course Assessment

50% weekly grading on the process of work and sketches, including 25% on mid-course evaluation
and 25% on the final finished work.
