Introduction
In this experiment, we will demonstrated two
types of collisions which are elastic collision and
inelastic collision between cart 1 and cart 2.  We
will using Vernier carts with velcro side to
demonstrate inelastic collision. We will using
Vernier carts with magnet side to demonstrate
elastic collision. We will determine the
momentum conserved for each type of collision.

Objectiive
In this lab, the goal is to demonstrate the
law of conservation of momentum.Also,to
investigate if the both momentum are both
elastic or inelastic collis.
Material
1.Low friction Vernier track
2.Vernier cart
3.Mass scale
4. Stop watch
Set Up
Procedure
1)Set up the empty carts as shown in the diagram
below. Cart B (with the spring mechanism) should
have the spring compressed and touching a wall.
There should be space between the two carts, velcro
sides facing each other.
2)Mark your “starting” point at the velcro side of cart
A’s position. Measure the distance between both
velcro ends of the carts. Record this distance for cart
B.
3)Release the spring mechanism and start the
stopwatch. Press “Lap” on the stopwatch when the
carts collide with each other. Stop the time when the
carts come to a stop. Record the lap times in your
data table.
4)Measure and record the distance from your starting
point to the MIDDLE of the 2 carts.5)Repeat steps 2-4
for the next 3 trials.
Results
Mass1 =504.54 g.
Mass2 =513.58 g
.Distance = 20 cm

iNelastic collision
Calculation:
elastic collision
Analysis:
In the experiment we tested 2 types of collision. Elastic
and Inelastic. Even though both carts have the same
mass and distance, it can still be seen that elastic
collisions have more change in momentum than the
inelastic one.

Conclusion
In conclusion,  There were 2 types of collisions.
Though both carts have close mass and same distance.
In inelastic collision. The percentage difference of elastic
collision is higher than inelastic collision, Because the
change of initial momentum and final momentum of
elastic collision is larger than the  change of initial
momentum and final momentum of inelastic collision.

Recommentation
In the next experiment, we will be improve the accuracy
in time. Because the time  that we observed cause the
momentum to not conserved 100%, the difference is
not about 5-10%
