Who moved my Cheese?

In the story, the mice and the Little people spent time in the Maze looking for their own special
cheese. The two mice searched for the hard nibbling cheese they liked, as mice often do. The two Little
people searched for a very different kind of Cheese which they believed would make them feel happy and
successful. The cheese are their needs, whenever they find some they become happy and satisfied. Then
they discovered a place called Cheese Station C that was filled with many cheese that can last very long.
One morning they arrived at Cheese Station C and discovered there was no cheese. Sniff and Scurry
weren't surprised for they had noticed the supply of cheese had been getting smaller every day and they
were prepared for the inevitable and knew instinctively what to do and it is to went back to what they
were doing to find cheese. But Hem and Haw were the opposite, they had not been paying attention to the
small changes that had been taking place each day and were unprepared for what they found. Finally, one
day Haw began to realize what they were doing was ridiculous. They keep doing the same things over and
over again and wonder why things don't get better. Haw did not like the idea of having to run through the
Maze again, because he knew he would get lost and have no idea where he would find any Cheese but
Haw decided to go back to the Maze. Hem said that why don't they just wait there until they put the
Cheese back but Haw insisted that they're never going to put the Cheese back and they did not want to
see and accept it but it’s time to find their New Cheese. With the lack of their need Hem was able to self-
actualized and learn.

According to Maslow, we have an inborn desire to be self-actualized but in order to achieve this
there are needs that must be met first. In his Hierarchy of Needs, at the lowest level is called the
physiological needs that consists of food, water, clothing, etc. The second level is made up of security and
safety needs and some of these are financial security, heath and wellnes and safety against accidents and
injury. The third level is the social needs that includes family, friendship, social groups, romantic
attachments, etc. In the fourth level is the Esteem needs that includes confidence, respect, appreciation,
etc. At the peak of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is the self-actualization, people have to achieve their full
potential as human beings. In the story, with the lack and not able to achieve their needs Haw was able to
self-actualized first. It is the opposite of the Hierarchy of needs, wherein the top most must be achieved
first to be able to get and achieve your other needs. Haw became self-aware of what was happening to
them and have personal growth by letting go and trusting what lay ahead for him, even though he did not
know exactly what it was and fulfill his potential by getting out of his comfort zone and adapt to change
sooner. He was able to feel good and enjoy himself even though he had not yet found another cheese.
Fulfillment of the needs was strongly correlated with happiness, people from cultures all over the world
reported that self-actualization and social needs were important even when many of the most basic needs
were unfulfilled.
