Q1.

A large retailer must make a choice between three sales locations within a shopping
complex. The following data are traffic per hour for a 7-day period:

Location X 64 54 56 55 60 51 57
Location Y 24 40 37 33 42 29 34
Location Z 45 51 48 48 53 49 36

Is there any significant difference in the average traffic passing the three locations? Which
location would you advice the retailer to choose?

Q2. What is one-way Anova? Four machines A, B, C, and D are used to produce a certain kind
of cotton fabrics. Samples of size 4 from the outputs of the each machine are taken at random,
and the number of flaws counted with the following result.

A B C D
8 6 14 20
9 8 12 22
11 10 18 25
12 4 9 23

Do you think there is a significant difference in the performance of the four machines? Use one
way Anova to test at 1% level of significance.

Q3. Using the data given below Use ANOVA to test

(i) whether the mean sales of cars are different in different months
(ii) (ii) the mean sales of cars are different for different brands at 5 % level of significance.

Brands Number of cars sold in ‘000s

Q4. In a survey randomly chosen 12 persons were asked about their income, education and the
number of years they had been doing a job/business. Their responses: the value of earning per
month (in 000 rupees), education and the number of years of experience are represented in the
table below: Fit a multiple regression model.
Education is measured on the basis of the following:

Not attended school =0, Primary education =1, High school education=2, Diploma=3,
Graduate(Arts/Sc/Com)= 4, Graduate (professional)=5, Post graduate (other than medical )=6 ,
Post graduate( medical ) =7, PhD = 8.

Q5. The following table gives the number of subscribers added by four major telecom players in
India, in the months of August, September, October and November. The data are given in 000’s
and are rounded off to the nearest 100, and thus are in lakhs

August 6 6 2 5
September 7 6 2 3
October 7 6 6 4
November 7 8 7 4
(Source: Indiainfoline.com on India Mobile Industry)

A researcher wants to study the followings (at 5% level of significance):

(i) Whether the four companies significantly differ in their performance.

(ii) Whether there is significant difference between the months.

Interpret the values in the above ANOVA table showing all the working steps.
Draw your conclusion using Critical value Approach and as well as P-value approach.

Solution: By solving the above ANOVA USING EXCEL the following tables are generated.
