Rejuvenation treatment and coatings for thermal
insulation of turbine blades and pads
Objectives

 To develop a heat treatment procedure by

ThermoCalc to recover the as-cast
microstructure of turbine blades.

 To recover the mechanical properties of the

blades through a heat treatment process
and/or hot isostatic pressing.

 To apply respective coatings to rejuvenated

blades and pads as follow: bond coat and
ceramic and abradable top coats to blades
and pads, respectively.

Additive Manufacturing of Inconel 718 by Direct
Sintering of Laser-assisted Metal

General Objective
• To investigate and understand the phenomena behind the laser-
matter interactions involved in the direct metal laser sintering
manufacturing process of Inconel 718 components, as well as its
influence on part performance as a final component.
Specific Objectives
• To understand and control the effect of exposure parameters over
the chemical, mesostructural and microstructural properties of the
Inconel 718 manufactured by direct metal laser sintering.
• To study the effect of heating during the direct metal laser sintering
process on the mesostructure (adherence) and microstructure of the
fabricated material in 2 dimensions.
• Compare the mechanical performance of Inconel 718
manufactured by direct metal laser sintering with conventional
manufacturing methods.

Una de las Ten main causes

of delay during the
operation of trains, in

by rain. This weather
