UNIT 1 – EXERCISE 19:

Dear Mr. Graham Matthew,

I wish to apply for the graduate trainee as commercial lawyer position at your
company, currently being advertised on your company website. Please find enclosed
my CV for your consideration.

As you will see from my attached CV, I have recently completed my 4 years
Bachelor’s degree in Legal English at Ho Chi Minh University of Law and a band 7.5
of IETLS certificate. I believe the knowledge I have acquired through my course work
and the skills I picked up make me an ideal candidate for this opportunity.

I am interested in this position as it appeals directly to passion for working in both

commercial and legal area. I wish to learn by working in a fast paced environment.
Aside from my degree, I have held various internship positions at various companies
that have provided me with important hands-one experience to work as a foundation
to build my career in legal field.

In addition to my degree qualification, I have participated in a media club at my

school and have completed a course of media at Arena Multimedia school to gain
more knowledge on the current market trends. I am confident that my passion and
enthusiasm for the Commercial field will prove valuable to your company.

For my own concern, I would like to ask some question about the progamme. Which
task will I cover during the training progamme? How long will the training last? What
are the evaluation criterias during the progamme? And the opportunity to become a
full time employee at the end of the training?

I look forward to an interview with you where we can have detailed discusstion on my
suitability for the position. You can reach me any time during the day on mail or on
phone. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Nguyen Ha Giang.

UNIT 2 – EXERCISE 32:

To: Berlingua Language School (Joanna Staines)
Subject: Simon Burnett, Burnett TV Supplies

Dear Ms Staines,

Thank you for coming to see me last Friday when we discussed your issues with
Burnett TV Supplies. I am writing to summarise our discussion and to confirm your
instructions.
You told me that you (represented for Berlingua Language School) bought a new
satellite system (including built-in hard drive) at 50% of the normal price from
Burnett TV Supplies which was to be used to record foreign-language TV
programmes for use during lessons.

When you first set it up and tried to record, you realised that the timer function was
broken. You has asked for a replacement from Mr Burnett, but was told that you
couldn’t expect it to work perfectly at such a cheap price. They refused to replace it,
but did offered to repair it at a cost of £130.

According to the Sale of Goods Act, if a reduction is offered due to a defect in the
product, this defect must be pointed out at the time of purchase. Because Mr Burnett
did not do this, you may claim a full refund or a replacement at your choice.

Please let me know which options you would prefer. I will then write to Mr Burnett on
your behalf. It will only take one letter from us before Burnett backs down – he would
have no chance in the small claims court.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Nguyen Ha Giang.
