Movie Title: Contagion

What is the disease detected?

The disease in the movie was called, Meningoencephalitis Virus- One (MEV-1). It was
discovered by Dr. Ally Hextall, a research scientist alongside with Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC). The disease is considered to be fatal and airborne, it
shows symptoms like, cold and displays a simple flu- like symptoms for days until, it
worsen and lead to death in an instant.
Dr. Leonora Orantes, works for World Health Organization (WHO) as a epidemiologist,
who was appointed to investigate about the disease. She traveled to Hong Kong and
identified Beth Emhoff as patient zero. She is the first one to came in contact with the
disease, Dr. Leonora along with Sun Feng and other epidemiologists, to track the trails
of Beth at the Macau casino, leading them with how the disease spread like wildfire.

How fast did it spread?

The spread of the disease is like a wildfire, with a simple flu- like symptoms turns out to
be a fatal and deadly. In just 12 days, 8 million are already infected with the disease
worldwide. Only in a matter of days, death would come.

How did they find the cure?

Dr. Hextall, uses a attenuated vaccine, and injected herself with it, to cut out the long
process of experimenting and waiting. Later on, the vaccine was found to be a success,
since she didn’t contract the disease and she’s immune to it.

How did it spread?

The disease was determined to be fatal and airborne, by having contact with a person
who have already contracted with the disease.
Where did the disease came from?
In the latter part of the movie, it shows that the company, a bulldozer from AIMM
Alderson, it was shown that it was clearing the jungle. A banana tree fell from its’ place
and a bat flew over the banana tree to get a chunk/ piece of banana. The bat flew over
the pig pen and the banana that the bat was eating fell in the pig pen. The pigs ate the
banana.
To sum it up, the mix up of the saliva of a bat and a pig, would create a new type of
disease with no cure and no further studies available.

How can it be prevented, to cross- country outbreak?
