Introduction

God has been taking you, step by step, into a new dimension of
faith and power. As you receive revelation and apply these truths
to your life, you will experience greater victories in every area of
your life.

As we look at two more overcomers, Joshua and Caleb, you

will learn the characteristics of an overcomer. You will learn how
to overcome the giants in your life and that God intends for you to
be invincible!

I pray that you will rise up in the fullness of all that God
intends for you to be as His beloved child. As you see, more
clearly, the spiritual inheritance God has made possible for you
through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, press forward in faith to
wage spiritual warfare, take hold of His promises, and claim what
belongs to you.

God is saying to you,

“Rise up in the power of My Spirit to take possession of all

that I have provided for you as one of My chosen ... My beloved
child. There is much more that I have prepared for you to possess.
Don’t hold back or hesitate. I am with you and will bring you
into the fulfillment of all My promises to you. Don’t lean to your
own understanding or your limited strength. Trust Me wholly.
Take hold of Me, and you will see My glory!”

7
Receive the Word of the Lord into your spirit and act in faith
on His promises to take possession of your full inheritance.

God’s servant and your co-laborer,

Morris Cerullo

Chapter One

We Are Well Able to Overcome Them

After God supernaturally delivered the children of Israel out of

Egyptian bondage by awesome miracles, signs, and wonders, He
brought them to the border of the Promised Land.

They had experienced a great deliverance!

God manifested His mighty power on their behalf through

signs and wonders. He led them by a cloud during the day and a
pillar of fire by night. He had opened the Red Sea for them. They
walked across the sea on dry land. He revealed Himself to them
on Mt. Sinai in flaming fire and smoke. He spoke to them in an
audible voice out of the fire.

Moses told them ... he brought us out from thence, that he

might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware to our fathers
(Deuteronomy 6:23). God brought them out of the land of slavery
to bring them into their inheritance. He had entered into a covenant
with Abraham, and promised to give him and his seed all the land
of Canaan for an “everlasting possession.” (Genesis 17:8).

God promised them ... a land that floweth with milk and honey
(Deuteronomy 11:9).

It was a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh

water of the rain of heaven. A land which the Lord
thy God careth for: the eyes of the Lord thy God

9
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

are always upon it, from the beginning of the year

even unto the end of the year.
Deuteronomy 11:11-12

The children of Israel were on the brink of their spiritual destiny!

The Promised Land was before them.

They had the promises that God had given them.

Legally, the land belonged to them.

Yet, at that very crucial moment, they forfeited their inheritance.

But with whom was he grieved forty years? Was

it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases
fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that
they should not enter into his rest, but to them that
believed not? So we see that they could not enter in
because of unbelief.
Hebrews 3:17-19

The Promised Land—their inheritance—was within reach.

However, their unbelief held them back.

They forgot how God had rolled back the Red Sea and delivered
them with a mighty hand out of Egypt. Instead of focusing their
eyes upon Him, they became faint-hearted and limited God.

Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited

the Holy One of Israel. They remembered not his
hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the
enemy. How he had wrought his signs in Egypt,
and his wonders in the field of Zoan.
Psalm 78:41-43

10
We Are Well Able to Overcome Them

WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T FORFEIT

YOUR INHERITANCE
Beloved, God has brought you out to bring you in!

He has not only supernaturally delivered you out of the slavery

and bondage of sin, but He wants to bring you into your Promised
Land, where you take possession of your spiritual inheritance—all
that God has provided.

Many Christians have forfeited their spiritual inheritance.

Legally, it belongs to them through Christ’s sacrifice and provision
on the cross; but, like the children of Israel, through their unbelief
they fail to take possession of all that Christ has made possible.

They have limited the Holy One of Israel!

Although they may trust and believe God for forgiveness of

their sins, they are unable to press on in faith to believe all that
belongs to them as a child of the Most High God and joint-heir
with Jesus. They do not understand their position as a son or
daughter and continue living far below all He has provided.

TAKE YOUR POSITION AS A JOINT-HEIR

WITH CHRIST
A great majority of Christians cannot believe that as a joint-
heir with Christ, they have inherited all that He has. They don’t
have a revelation of who they are, and that through their union
with Him, they have the same power and authority, and are called
to rule and reign with Him on earth.

11
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

Apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesian Church, that ...

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened;

that ye may know what is the hope of his calling,
and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance
in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of
his power to us-ward who believe, according to the
working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in
Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set
him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Ephesians 1:18-20

It is my prayer that the Father will give you fresh revelation

of the rich inheritance that belongs to you ... and by faith, you
will take full possession of it. The same awesome power that was
manifested through Christ in healing the sick, opening blind eyes,
and raising the dead is working in you to conform you into the
image of Christ. As a joint-heir, you are seated together with
Christ in heavenly places!

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love

wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in
sins, hath raised us together with Christ, (by grace
ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and
made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ
Jesus.
Ephesians 2:4-6

No longer are you bound by your carnal, natural limitations.

The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead has raised you
together with Christ! You are joined together with Him. His life
is flowing in you, and you are now a temple of the Holy Spirit. In
this position as a child of God and joint-heir, you have been made
a partaker of His divine nature!

12
We Are Well Able to Overcome Them

According as his divine power hath given unto

us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,
through the knowledge of him that hath called us
to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us
exceeding great and precious promises: that by
these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world
through lust.
II Peter 1:3-4

Apostle Paul told believers in the Church in Rome, The Spirit

itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of
God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with
Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be glorified
together (Romans 8:16-17).

According to the Father’s foreordained plan, He determined

that He would have many sons. He planned that as His child,
you would be conformed into the image of Christ, possessing
full sonship rights and privileges as a joint-heir with Him. Paul
said, For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be
conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn
among many brethren (Romans 8:29).

Have you taken possession of your inheritance, whereby you

are truly living as a joint-heir with Christ? Or have you limited
God through your unbelief? Are you forfeiting your inheritance?

13
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

GOD IS SAYING, “GO IN AND TAKE

POSSESSION OF THE LAND!”
As the children of Israel camped on the border of the Promised
Land, God tested them to see if they would be obedient and act in
faith on His promise to give them the land.

He knew the giants were in the land.

He knew Israel’s enemies were living there, and He also knew

that the land was a rich, fertile land filled with His abundance.

Moses and the children of Israel had received His command to

go forward and take possession of the land. On Mt. Horeb, He told
them, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount … Behold, I have
set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord
sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto
them and to their seed after them (Deuteronomy 1:6, 8).

God told Moses to send one leader from each of the twelve tribes
of Israel to search out the land. The twelve leaders of the tribes of
Israel returned after forty days. They brought back pomegranates,
figs, and large clusters of grapes. The clusters of grapes were so
big, it took two men to carry them on a staff between them! They
came before Moses, Aaron, and all the congregation, lifted up the
cluster of grapes and fruit and said, We came unto the land whither
thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this
is the fruit of it (Numbers 13:27).

The evidence that the Promised Land was a fruitful, prosperous

land could not be denied!

However, their focus was not on God’s promises that He

would fight for them, drive out their enemies, and give them
the land. Their focus was on their own limited strength, and on

14
We Are Well Able to Overcome Them

their circumstances instead of God’s promises and His unlimited

miracle-working power.

Ten of the men who went to search out the land began to plant
fear in the people by focusing on what seemed to be impossible
obstacles to overcome. They told them:

լլ The people are strong!

լլ The cities are walled and secure!

լլ The giants are there!

լլ The Amalekites, Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, and

Canaanites are there!

UNTIL YOU FACE YOUR GIANTS, YOU WILL BE

UNABLE TO ENTER YOUR PROMISED LAND
As they were speaking, Caleb, a leader from the tribe of Judah,
calmed the people down.

Caleb was a great man of faith. He had also seen the Promised
Land, as well as the giants and their enemies. He knew the God of
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and that His promises would not fail.
He was ready to face the giants and the enemies of Israel and take
possession of the land. He said, Let us go up at once, and possess
it: for we are well able to overcome it (Numbers 13:30).

Caleb was a man with a different spirit. He didn’t limit God! He

knew that regardless of the size of the giants or the number of the
enemy armies, God would fight for them and they would overcome.

15
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

He was obedient. God had commanded them to go and take

possession of the land, and Caleb was ready to overcome all
opposition of the enemy. He was ready to fight for his inheritance
and he refused to be defeated!

God has already given you your spiritual inheritance.

It legally belongs to you.

It’s yours through Christ.

But, like Caleb, you must also be willing to fight in faith to take
possession of it. Jesus said, And from the days of John the Baptist
until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent
take it by force (Matthew 11:12). You must be willing to wage war
in the spirit to overcome fear, unbelief, and every hindering force
that will stop you from entering your Promised Land.

Just as God sent the children of Israel out to face the giants
before they could take possession of the land, He also will send
you out to face your giants to see if you will believe and act on His
promises and take possession of your inheritance.

Whatever you do, don’t forfeit your spiritual inheritance!
God wants to bring you into your Promised Land, where you take
possession of your full rights and privileges as His child and joint-

17
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

Make this declaration of faith over your life daily:

“I am taking possession of my full inheritance! As a joint-

heir with Christ, I am no longer bound by my carnal, natural
limitations. By faith, I will wage war in the spirit to overcome
fear, unbelief, and every hindering force that will try to stop
me. I will act in faith on God’s promises, and take all that
belongs to me through Christ.”

18
Chapter Two

Reject the Evil Report

To take possession of your inheritance—all that God has

provided for you through Christ—you must also face and overcome
the spirits of fear, unbelief, and the negative forces around you ...
just as Caleb and Joshua faced and overcame the spirit of unbelief
and the negative report that the ten spies brought back.

The ten spies stirred up the people. Because their eyes focused
on their circumstances, the giants, and their own inabilities, they
said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are
stronger than we (Numbers 13:31, NKJV).

They did not want to fight, and gave an evil report of the land.
They said, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is
a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people
we saw in it were of a great stature (Numbers 13:32). Instead of
looking at the giant clusters of grapes and fruit that the spies had
brought back, and remembering God’s promise to give them a
land of abundance that was flowing with milk and honey, they
could only see the strength of their enemies.

When they saw the giants, they saw their own weaknesses and
said, and we were in our sight as grasshoppers, and so we were
in their sight (Numbers 13:33). The children of Israel forgot who
they were, and the power of Jehovah, God Almighty, that they
served. Instead of looking beyond their own natural weaknesses
and focusing on God’s unlimited power and His promise to

19
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

drive out their enemies before them, the children of Israel saw
themselves as being weak and powerless—unable to face and
defeat their enemies.

Remember that the ten spies were leaders from the twelve tribes
of Israel. As they spoke these words, they were speaking death
and destruction not only to themselves, but also to the children of
Israel. Because they saw themselves as grasshoppers compared to
the giants, and confessed it, they were defeated without out even
going into battle.

How do you see yourself? Are you listening to the negative

report of the enemy? Do you see yourself as a grasshopper,
weak and powerless against the giants in your life? Or do
you see yourself as a child of the living God, possessing His
power and authority ... overcoming the enemy and taking
possession of all that God has provided for you?

Death and life are in the power of the tongue … (Proverbs

18:21). To overcome fear, unbelief, and the negative forces that will
hinder you from taking possession of your inheritance, you must
refuse to speak words of fear, doubt, and unbelief. Don’t begin to
murmur, complain, or question God. Speak God’s promises and
words of strength and power over your life.

DON’T LIMIT GOD!

The evil report of the ten spies spread throughout the camp, and
the entire congregation cried all night. The next day, they began
murmuring against Moses and Aaron. They said, Would God that
we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would God we had died
in this wilderness! (Numbers 14:2). They began to question God
saying, And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to

20
Reject the Evil Report

fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey?
were it not better for us to return into Egypt? (Numbers 14:3).

Their fear led to unbelief.

Their unbelief led to murmuring.

Their murmuring led to their questioning God, which

eventually led to their rebellion.

Their rebellion resulted in their failure to take hold of their

inheritance, and their defeat.

Because they believed the evil report, the children of Israel

were ready to appoint a captain and return to their slavery and
bondage in Egypt!

We look at the unbelief and rebellion of the children of Israel

and wonder how it was possible for them to doubt and question
God, after all the awesome signs and wonders He had manifested
on their behalf. Yet, how often do Christians today fail to remember
God’s unlimited miracle-working power, fail to take hold of His
promises by faith, and continue walking around in the wilderness,
unable to enter into their Promised Land ... all that God has
provided for them?

When faced with seemingly impossible circumstances—

major challenges, financial crises, sickness, or family problems—
many Christians focus on the giants, their impossibilities, and
the negative report. Instead of waging war in the spirit to break
through the enemy’s resistance and take hold of their inheritance
as a child of God—healing, supernatural provision, and divine
intervention in their circumstances—they become fearful. They
begin to waver in their faith and begin to murmur and complain.

21
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

They question God, “Why have you allowed this to happen to me?
Why must I go through this pain and suffering?”

As a result, they are unable to take hold of the promises of God

and forfeit their inheritance.

WHOSE REPORT WILL YOU BELIEVE?

When Moses and Aaron heard the people’s words and saw
their rebellion, they fell on their faces before God. Joshua and
Caleb were so grieved, they tore their clothes. They told the
people, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an
exceeding good land. If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring
us into this land, and give it to us; a land which floweth with milk
and honey (Numbers 14:7-8).

Joshua and Caleb were men of great courage and faith. They
rejected the evil report and continued to believe and trust God.
They had a strong grip on God, and God had a strong grip on
them. They were not afraid of the giants or people of the land,
because they knew Jehovah, God Almighty, was with them and
would make them victorious.

Joshua and Caleb didn’t see themselves as grasshoppers. They

saw themselves as powerful warriors, and their enemies as weak
and powerless against them and their God! They refused to be
defeated! By faith, they saw themselves as overcomers and spoke
words of power and victory. They told the people, rebel not ye
against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land, for they
are bread for us, their defence is departed from them, and the Lord
is with us; fear them not (Numbers 14:9).

On hearing their words, the entire congregation was ready

to stone Joshua and Caleb, but the glory of God appeared in the

22
Reject the Evil Report

tabernacle before all the children of Israel. God was ready to strike
them with a plague and disinherit them, but Moses interceded
before God on their behalf and God heard Moses’ prayers and
pardoned them. (Numbers 14:20).

CALEB HAD “ANOTHER SPIRIT WITH HIM”

Because of their unbelief and rebellion, none of the generation

who were 20 years and older were allowed to enter the Promised
Land. God told Moses,

Because all those men which have seen my glory,

and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the
wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten
times, and have not hearkened to my voice; Surely
they shall not see the land which I sware unto their
fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked
me see it: But my servant Caleb, because he had
another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully,
him will I bring into the land whereinto he went;
and his seed shall possess it.
Numbers 14:22-24

Only two men out of the entire generation of men 20 years or

older, Caleb and Joshua, entered and took possession of the land.
Caleb had “another spirit with him,” and had obeyed God fully!
He wasn’t afraid to reject the negative report of the ten spies or to
face the angry crowd that wanted to stone him and Joshua.

God told Moses to tell the children of Israel, As truly as I

live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to
you: Your carcases shall fall in the wilderness; and all that were
numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty
years and upward, which have murmured against me, Doubtless
ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make

23
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua
the son of Nun (Numbers 14:28-30). The words of the children of
Israel brought their own defeat!

Instead of taking possession of their inheritance, the remaining

10 spies who brought the evil report of the land and caused the
children of Israel to be fearful and murmur against God died by the
plague before the Lord (Numbers 14:37).

Instead of crossing over into the Promised Land, God told the
children of Israel they would wander in the wilderness forty years
... one year for every day they had searched the land. When Moses
told the congregation of the children of Israel, they were filled with
remorse and mourned. The very next morning, they went up to the
top of the mountain and told Moses they would go in and take
the land. However, because of their rebellion and disobedience,
God was not with them. But they presumed to go up unto the hill
top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and Moses,
departed not out of the camp (Numbers 14:44).

They were defeated by their enemies, and an entire generation

died in the wilderness.

LIKE CALEB, TAKE YOUR MOUNTAIN!

Joshua and Caleb were overcomers! God commissioned Joshua

to bring a new generation into the Promised Land, to take possession
of their inheritance. At the age of 85, Caleb drove out the giants in
the land and took possession of Hebron! (Joshua 15:12-14).

After forty years of wandering in the wilderness, Caleb

reminded Joshua of God’s promise to him as he divided the
Promised Land and gave each tribe their inheritance. He said,

24
Reject the Evil Report

Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land

whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine
inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because
thou hast followed the Lord my God. And now,
behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said,
these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake
this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel
wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this
day fourscore and five years old. As yet I am as
strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent
me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength
now, for war, both to go out and come in.
Joshua 14:9-11

Caleb didn’t lose hope during the forty years in the wilderness.
He held onto God’s promise.

God kept Caleb during the forty years. He walked in God’s

strength and was as strong forty years later as he was the day
Moses sent him to spy out the land.

Caleb took possession of His inheritance because he “had a

different spirit.” He was totally consecrated to God and “followed
Him fully.” He was courageous! He wasn’t afraid of the giants,
and was ready to go to war and take possession of the land. He was
invincible! He faced the giants and drove them from Mt. Hebron!

You have a choice. God is saying, “Go in and take possession

of your Promised Land—all that I have provided for you!”

Refuse to be defeated! Whatever giants you face, and regardless

of how long you have been waiting for your breakthrough, hold
onto God’s promises. Refuse the negative report of the enemy.
Wage spiritual warfare and like Caleb say, “Give me this mountain!
I claim my inheritance, in Jesus’ Name!”

25
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

Reject the Evil Report

How do you see yourself? Ask yourself the following questions:

Am I listening to the negative report of the enemy about who I

am; or, am I living according to who God says I am?

Do I see myself as weak and powerless against the giants in

my life; or, like Joshua and Caleb, am I rejecting the evil report
and see myself as a child of God ... possessing His power and
authority to overcome the giants?

What are some of the giants you are facing—the obstacles,

challenges, or seemingly impossible circumstances you face?
Write them down here.

26
Reject the Evil Report

Make this your declaration of faith:

“In Jesus’ Name, I reject the negative report of the enemy.

As a child of the living God, I possess His power and authority
over all the power of the enemy. I am more than able, through
Him, to slay all the giants in my life. I reject all fear and unbelief.
By faith, I take possession of ALL that God has provided for
me through Christ.”

Chapter Three

Overcome and Take Possession

of the Land
Joshua was chosen and anointed by God to bring the children
of Israel into the Promised Land. Moses didn’t just randomly
choose him as his successor. Joshua was the servant of Moses. He
had been with Moses and observed all that he did.

Joshua had proven himself on the battlefield when Moses

sent him to war against the Amalekites. (Exodus 17:9-13). When
God called Moses up into Mt. Sinai to meet with Him, he took
Joshua with him. (Exodus 24:13). Joshua was with Moses when
he came down from meeting with God forty days and nights, and
saw the rebellion of the children of Israel worshipping the golden
calf. (Exodus 32:17). When God’s Shekinah glory came down on
the tabernacle and Moses met with God, Joshua was with him,
and remained in the tabernacle after Moses returned to the camp.
And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh
unto his friend. And he turned again unto the camp: but Joshua,
the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle
(Exodus 33:11).

As we take a close look at his life, you will see more clearly
the characteristics of an overcomer.

Joshua was:

լլ Fearless and courageous

29
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

լլ A strong warrior

լլ Totally consecrated to God

լլ A man of faith

լլ Full of the spirit of wisdom

լլ Obedient to God and fulfilled all the commandments

Moses had given him

The Spirit of God was in him.

As an overcomer, you need to have these same characteristics.

As you continually yield yourself to the Holy Spirit, God will
work in your life to develop these characteristics. He will allow
circumstances to come into your life through which He will build
up your faith and make you a mighty spiritual warrior, able to
stand against all the powers of darkness.

GOD IS SAYING, “GO IN AND TAKE POSSESSION

OF YOUR INHERITANCE!”
God directed Moses to lay his hands on Joshua and set him
apart as his successor. And the Lord said unto Moses, Take thee
Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine
hand upon him; And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before
all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight. And thou
shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation
of the children of Israel may be obedient. And he shall stand
before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the
judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out,
and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children
of Israel with him, even all the congregation (Numbers 27:18-21).

30
Overcome and Take Possession of the Land

As Moses laid his hands upon Joshua, he was filled with a

spirit of wisdom. And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of
wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children
of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded
Moses (Deuteronomy 34:9).

God told Moses that Joshua was the one who would cause the
children of Israel to inherit the land and told him to encourage him.
(Deuteronomy 1:38). Before Moses died, he commissioned Joshua:

And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him

in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good
courage: for thou shalt go with this people into the
land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers
to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit
it. And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee;
he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither
forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
Deuteronomy 31:7-8

After Moses died, the Lord spoke to Joshua and gave him His
promises, and assured him of imminent victory over their enemies
as they took possession of the land. He told Joshua to tell the
people to prepare food for the journey, because in three days they
would go in to possess the land. He said, within three days ye shall
pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord
your God giveth you to possess it (Joshua 1:11).

God is calling His people today to take possession of the land

... to take possession of the inheritance He has given us. It is God’s
to give and it is yours ... if you take it by faith. All things are yours
in Christ. According as his divine power hath given unto us all
things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge
of him that hath called us to glory and virtue (II Peter 1:3). All

31
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

God’s promises are yes and amen. (II Corinthians 1:20). You have
inherited all His promises through Christ. They are your inheritance.
However, you must rise up and take them by faith.

The book of Joshua focuses on overcoming the enemy and

occupying the land. God says, “Take it all!” He wants you to
take possession of ALL that He has provided. Don’t stop short
of taking possession of all His promises and provision
that He has made possible for you to have!

FIVE DIVINE PROMISES THAT WILL

ENABLE YOU TO TAKE POSSESSION
OF YOUR INHERITANCE
Promise #1:

In Joshua 1:3, God promised Joshua that as he entered the

Promised Land, everywhere he went, it belonged to him. God
said, Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that
have I given unto you, as I said to Moses (Joshua 1:3).

This is God’s promise to you! It is your spiritual inheritance. As

a child of God and joint-heir with Christ, everywhere you go you
can claim spiritual territory for the Kingdom of God. Begin to take
possession of the spiritual territory in your home, neighborhood,
school, workplace, city, and nation.

Promise #2:

No man will be able to stand before you. God told Joshua,

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days
of thy life ... (Joshua 1:5).

32
Overcome and Take Possession of the Land

God’s promise to you is that He plans for you to be invincible!

Regardless of who or what may come against you, nothing can
stand in your way or hinder you from taking all that Christ has
provided for you through the cross. When you wage spiritual
warfare, there is no power or principality of the enemy that can
withstand you, as you take hold of your inheritance and walk in
the power and authority He has given you.

Promise #3:

He is with you! God promised ... as I was with Moses, so will I

be with thee … (Joshua 1:5). God is with you in every circumstance
you face ... in every crisis, every trial of your faith, every difficult
situation, and every spiritual battle you encounter. The same
miracle-working God that manifested awesome miracles, signs,
and wonders on behalf of the children of Israel is WITH YOU!

And, if God be for you, who can be against you?

Promise #4:

Jehovah God Almighty will never fail you! God promised,

I will not fail you … (Joshua 1:5). The word fail in this verse
is translated from the Hebrew word raphah, which means “to
slacken”. When God says I will not fail you ... He is saying “I
will not drop you. I will not slacken my grip on you. I will not let
you go!”

In Hebrews 13:5-6, we read this same promise. This was

written to believers in the Early Church who were facing their
enemies. Their houses and goods were being taken away from
them. They were being persecuted and imprisoned for the sake of
the Gospel. God said ... I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not
fear what man shall do unto me (Hebrews 13:5-6).

33
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

God was saying to Joshua, “You’re about to cross over Jordan,

and I’ve got you in My grip! I will not slacken my grip on you.”

Let this truth sink deep into your spirit. God has you in His grip!

Promise #5:

He will NEVER forsake you! After God promised Joshua

that He would not fail him, then He promised not to forsake him
... I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee (Joshua 1:5). The Hebrew
word for forsake is azab, which means “a strengthening.” In other
words, God is saying, “I will not relinquish you, nor depart from
you, nor abandon you.”

God has you in His grip and will never let you go!

GET A GRIP ON GOD AND NEVER LET GO!

Joshua 1:1-9 contains powerful keys in crossing over and

taking possession of your inheritance. You must take hold of
these promises. They reveal who you are and what belongs to you
as a child of the living God! You need to get a grip on God and
determine never to let go.

After God gave Joshua these promises, He commanded him to

Be strong and of a good courage ... (Joshua 1:6). This was not just a
simple word of encouragement or a suggestion. It was a command!
God repeated this several times. In verse 7, God told Joshua, Only
be thou strong and very courageous … (Joshua 1:7). Again, in
verse 9, God re-emphasized this command. He said, Have not I
commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage … (Joshua 1:9).

The definition of the word strong in this verse is “to fasten

onto, to seize.” To be strong means that you get a grip on God ...
fasten onto Him and do not let go.

34
Overcome and Take Possession of the Land

God’s command to you is the same, “Be strong and courageous!”

In the spiritual battles you face, don’t be afraid or shaken by the
power of the enemy. Do not see yourself as being weak or powerless.
As a child of the living God, you are strong as long as you have a
strong grip ... have fastened yourself to God. There is absolutely
no margin for failure! In verse 9, after commanding Joshua to be
strong, God gave the key. He said, be not afraid, neither be thou
dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou
goest (Joshua 1:9). When you know that God is with you ... He has
a grip on you, and you have a grip on Him ... wherever you go and
whatever you do, you will not be fearful.

God told Joshua,

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy

mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and
night, that thou mayest observe to do according to
all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make
thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good
success.
Joshua 1:8

To take hold of your inheritance, you must be courageous.

And the only way you can get courage is in knowing God’s Word.
You must stay in the Word until the Word comes alive within you.
Don’t let it become just a spiritual exercise. Spend quality time
reading, meditating on the Word and applying it daily to your life.

35
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

Overcome and Take Possession

of the Land
The characteristics of an overcomer demonstrated in the life
of Joshua are:
• Fearlessness
• Courageousness
• A strong warrior
• Totally committed to God
• A man or woman of faith
• Filled with the spirit
• Obedient to God

Place a check mark next to the characteristics of an overcomer

God is developing in you.
Write down the five divine promises that will enable you to
take possession of your inheritance. Claim them by faith over
your life. Take possession of the spiritual territory in your home,
neighborhood, school, workplace, city and nation.

Make this your declaration of faith and speak it daily over

your life:

“God has me in His grip and I have a grip on God! I refuse

to forfeit my spiritual inheritance! God is with me in every
circumstance I face ... every crisis, every trial of faith, every
difficult situation and every spiritual battle I encounter. God
will never leave nor forsake me!”

36
God Is Saying: “I Have Given You The Land ... Take It ALL!”

Chapter Four

God Is Saying: “I Have Given You The

Land ... Take It ALL!”
The book of Joshua is a book of conquest and victory. It
describes one of the most memorable conquests in history. Joshua
was a mighty warrior who led the children of Israel across Jordan
to take possession of their inheritance. Although God promised
them the land and that He would fight for them and deliver the
enemy into their hands, He required them to face their enemies
and conquer them.

Joshua had God’s promises, and he acted in faith on those

promises. After they had camped three days near the Jordan River,
Joshua gave the command for the priests carrying the Ark of the
Covenant to go before the people. He called them together and
told them ...

Come hither, and hear the words of the Lord your

God. And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that
the living God is among you, and that he will without
fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and
the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites,
and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the
Jebusites.
Joshua 3:10

Joshua and the children of Israel marched forward to take

possession of the land ... not based on the words of a man, but

37
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

based on “Thus saith the Lord!” Moses and the generation that had
rebelled against God and forfeited their inheritance were dead. It
was a new day ... a new generation that was ready to wage war and
take possession of the land based on God’s word—His promises
to them.

To take possession of your spiritual inheritance, all that God

has provided for you through Christ, you must also be willing to
wage spiritual warfare based on “Thus saith the Lord” ... God’s
promises to you. Christ has already paid the price. There is nothing
you can do to earn it. It legally belongs to you. However, you must
act in faith to take possession of it.

“AS I WAS WITH MOSES, I AM WITH YOU!”

God gave them a supernatural sign, that they would know

beyond all doubt that He was with them and would drive out their
enemies before them. (Joshua 3:18). The moment the feet of the
priests carrying the ark stepped into the Jordan River, the river
parted and all of Israel marched over on dry ground! God had told
Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all
Israel that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be
with thee (Joshua 3:7).

God had a purpose for this great manifestation of His power.

He wanted Israel and all the people of the earth to know that His
Presence and power was with Israel to deliver them. (Joshua 4:23-
24). God directed them to build a memorial with twelve stones
taken from the middle of the Jordan as a reminder to them and
their descendants that it was His mighty hand that supernaturally
rolled back the Jordan for them.

38
God Is Saying: “I Have Given You The Land ... Take It ALL!”

GOD POSITIONED JOSHUA AND THE CHILDREN

OF ISRAEL FOR TOTAL VICTORY!
As they marched forward, the Israelites weren’t running or
hiding in fear from their enemies; their enemies trembled with
fear because the Almighty miracle-working God was with Israel.
(Joshua 2:9-11). When they heard the Israelites were coming, they
were seized with fear. Rahab told the men Joshua sent to spy out
Jericho, as soon as we heard these things, our hearts did melt,
neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because
of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in
earth beneath (Joshua 2:11).

The children of Israel were prepared to wage war and possess

their possessions! About forty thousand prepared for war passed
over before the Lord unto battle, to take the plains of Jericho
(Joshua 4:13). To take possession of your inheritance, you must
also be prepared to face the enemy, wage war in the spirit, and by
faith, take all that God has provided for you.

Before going into battle to take the city of Jericho, the Lord
manifested His Presence to Joshua and assured him that He was
going to make them victorious. Jericho was the strongest fortress
in Canaan, and its conquest was the key to the possession of the
whole land.

Even before they went into battle, God’s Presence had gone
before them, and the city was shut up because the people had
heard about the supernatural miracles God had performed in
delivering them out of Egyptian bondage, and how He had made
them victorious over all their enemies. All the people of the land
were afraid, and no one went in or out of Jericho.

39
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

God has positioned you for total victory! Christ has already won
the battle. He paid the price for you. As a joint-heir with Christ, you
have divine access to all that Christ is and has! Don’t limit God!
He will manifest His supernatural power on your behalf as He did
for Joshua and the children of Israel!

GOD IS SAYING, “I HAVE GIVEN YOU THE

LAND ... TAKE IT!
The Lord appeared to Joshua: And it came to pass, when Joshua
was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold,
there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his
hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for
us, or for our adversaries? (Joshua 5:13). The Lord answered him,
… Nay, but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come…
(Joshua 5:14).

When Joshua recognized who he was talking to, he fell on his

face and worshiped Him. As he was there in the Lord’s Presence,
Joshua was standing on holy ground. The Lord told him, Loose
your shoes from off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy
… (Joshua 5:15, AMPC).

As Joshua waited before the Lord, in His Presence, the Lord

said, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king
thereof, and the mighty men of valour (Joshua 6:2). God gave him
the battle strategies he was to use: Seven priests were to blow
trumpets, preceding the Ark of the Covenant, which was to lead
the army and the people of Israel in a procession around the walls
of Jericho once a day for six days. On the seventh day, they were
to circle Jericho seven times, and the seventh time around they
were to shout a great shout of victory.

40
God Is Saying: “I Have Given You The Land ... Take It ALL!”

As the Lord promised Joshua, on the seventh day, the seventh

time around when the people shouted, God caused the walls of
Jericho to fall and the Israelites took the city. The great victory
they won that day wasn’t dependent upon their military strength,
their wisdom, nor upon their military strategies. It wasn’t their
shouting or their own feeble efforts. The great walls of Jericho fell,
and they took the city, because God’s Presence was with them!

GOD IS SAYING, “GET UP FROM WHERE

YOU ARE ... CROSS OVER!”
A short time after this great victory at Jericho, when the
Israelites went to take the city of Ai, they were powerless against
their enemies. After spying out the land, they were so confident
in themselves about taking the city that they told Joshua it wasn’t
necessary to take all the people and they only took three thousand
men to the battle. They were defeated and were forced to run from
the enemy.

Joshua tore his clothes and fell on his face and lay before the
ark—the Presence of God—along with all the elders of Israel, until
the setting of the sun. He lay there before the Lord, discouraged,
full of fear, and unbelief. Defeated! Why have you brought this
people over the Jordan at all only to give us into the hand of the
Amorites to destroy us? Would that we had been content to dwell
beyond Jordan! (Joshua 7:7, AMPC).

Can you identify with Joshua? How many times have you been
in this same position ... discouraged ... defeated ... ready to give up?
God had not failed Israel. He had promised to drive out all of their
enemies, but there was sin in the camp. There was no reason for
Joshua to moan, groan, and complain to God about their defeat.

41
Take Possession of Your Inheritance

God told Joshua, Get up! Why do you lie thus upon your face?
Israel has sinned ... (Joshua 7:10-11, AMPC). The key to their
great victory at Jericho was the fact that God’s Presence was with
them, and the key to their defeat in the battle at Ai was the fact that
God was not with them because of sin in their midst. God allowed
them to fall into the hands of their enemies. He told Joshua ... I
will not be with you anymore unless you destroy the tings under
the ban from your midst (Joshua 7:12, NASB).

God is saying to you, “Get up!” It’s time for you to get up from
where you are. Regardless of the battles, circumstances, or crises
you may face, don’t get caught up in groaning and complaining
about your situation. Don’t be content to remain where you are.
God is saying to you “Take it all!” Press forward in the spirit to
take possession of your full inheritance as a child of the living
God. Take hold of all that Christ paid for on the cross.

GO FORWARD AND TAKE

YOUR POSSESSIONS
The record stands!

their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their

enemies into their hand. There failed not ought of
any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the
