Punctuation Marks (Ending)

Let’s read before we begin!

Punctuation marks are symbols which:

1. organize the structure of written language,


2. and indicate intonation and pauses to be observed when reading aloud.

Read the punctuation rules and study the examples given.

1. Full stop, or period (.)

o Used a full stop at the end of a sentence:

Examples: Homeschooling was a good fit for our family.


I like Totoro.
Next month will be 75th anniversary of Thomas and Friends.

o Used for abbreviations:

Examples: Co. (Company)


A.F.K. (Away from Keyboard)
G.G. (Good Game)
L.O.L. (Laugh Out Loud)
Mr./Ms. (Mister/ Miss)

2. Question marks (?)

o Question marks are used at the end of direct questions:

Examples: Where do you live?


Are you done with the 3rd quarter examinations?
Did you do the homework?

o Use a question mark at the end of tag questions:

Examples: You will help me, won't you?


He likes soccer, doesn't he?

3. Exclamation marks (!)

o Used to indicate strong emotions:

Examples: She's so beautiful!


What a nice game!
How interesting!

o Used after interjections:

Examples: Oh! It's awful.


Hi! What's up?

Have you seen the movie

white _____ I find it super cute
and cuddly _____
