General Notes
1. The contractor shall be responsible for the proper design and construction of the tower crane footing, observing all
local, state or provincial and federal codes.
2. The crane footing shall be designed by a professional engineer registered with the local jurisdiction. The engineer shall
accomodate project specific conditions such as allowable soil bearing pressure, differential settlement, and water table influence.
3. Per USDOL OSHA § 1926.1435(b)(4)(i), the controlling entity responsible for the installation of the foundations and
structural supports must supply a letter, to the A/D director, stating that the tower crane foundations and structural
supports are installed in accordance with their design, prior to crane erection.
4. The tower crane design is per DIN 15018. Tower Crane Wind Design Criteria is shown on the attached sheet.
Footing loading accounting for site specific wind criteria can be provided upon request.
5. The footing loads are only valid for rigid footings. Flexible steel supports or pile supported footings shall have a
dynamic factor added to the In Operation Load Case, for service level loading. M x 1.1, H x 1.1, V x 1.1, Md x 1.5
6. The foundation anchors shall be secured to a tower section and held plumb and secure to a tolerance of 1:500 while
the concrete footing is being constructed and cured. Foundation anchors are not to be reused.
7. The concrete must reach a minimum strength of 4500 psi before erection of the tower crane.
8. Footings deeper than the minimum depth require vertical tension reinforcing to transfer crane anchor uplift forces.
9. In Operation is restricted to windspeeds up to 45 MPH. If windspeeds exceed, or are anticipated to exceed 45 MPH, the
tower crane shall be placed Out of Operation and the tower crane allowed to weathervane 360 degrees.
10.The contractor shall verify all dimensions and site conditions prior to starting work. Any deviations from these documents
shall be brought to the immediate attention of the Morrow Engineering Department.
11. Drawings SHALL NOT be scaled.

SEISMIC NOTES

1. THE MANUFACTURER SUPPLIED LOADING DOES NOT INCLUDE SEISMIC.

IF THE LOCAL JURISDICTION REQUIRES SEISMIC LOADING, THE SITE SPECIFIC
SEISMIC LOADS MAY BE CALCULATED WITH THE FOLLOWING EQUATIONS.
MORE INFORMATION FOR CALCULATING THE SEISMIC LOADS IS
AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.

2. SEISMIC LOADING PER ASCE 7-10 BASE SHEAR V=CsW (12.8-1)

VERTICAL SEISMIC LOAD EFFECT Ev = 0.2 DS
S W (12.4.4)
SEISMIC RESPONSE COEFFICIENT (Cs) PER ASCE 7-10 CHAPTER 15.
SINCE THE TOWER CRANE LOADING IS ALLOWABLE STRESS DESIGN, THE HORIZONTAL
BASE SHEAR AND VERTICAL SEISMIC LOAD EFFECTS ARE MULTIPLIED BY 0.7.

3. THE TOTAL EFFECTIVE WEIGHT (W) OF THE TOWER CRANE IS THE FOOTING FORCE
OUT OF OPERATION (V). THE TOWER WEIGHTS ARE GIVEN IN THE EQUIPMENT BROCHURE.
THE TOWER LATERAL FORCE (w) IS DISTRIBUTED OVER THE HEIGHT OF THE TOWER (h).
THE UPPER CRANE WEIGHT IS (W) MINUS THE TOWER WEIGHTS. THE UPPER CRANE
LATERAL FORCE (H) IS CONCENTRATED AT THE HEIGHT OF THE UNDER SIDE OF THE JIB,
WHICH IS GIVEN IN THE EQUIPMENT BROCHURE. THE DEAD LOAD OVERTURNING MOMENT
OF THE CRANE (MDL) IS 1/2 OF THE MAXIMUM CAPACITY x RADIUS GIVEN IN THE
RADIUS AND CAPACITY CHARTS OF THE BROCHURE.
