Introduction to Multiplication
 The teacher will give students a quick overview of what is LD – have students represent
10 minutes coming up in the unit. During this time, the teacher will pre- multiplication in pictures
assess the knowledge students have about multiplication instead of words
using mini whiteboards
Video
 Play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPksJHBZs4Q
 After the video, the teacher will review the concepts that
20 minutes
the video touched on (commutative property, properties for
0 and 1, arrays, equal groups, tricks for multiplying, and the
multiplication table)
Prepare for Recess
5 minutes  Students will be instructed to put their mini whiteboards
away, and to get out scissors, and leave them on their desk
15 minutes BREAK - RECESS
15 minutes Paper-Folding Activity LD – use constant reminders
 Students will cut out a 3 x 4 array from graph paper that will ASD – use constant

through paper-folding with that array

 Students will cut out a 6 x 7 array from graph paper –
teacher will lead them through paper-folding with that array
Discussion
 Students will discuss in small groups to develop answers to LD – include in participation
15 minutes the question “Where do we use multiplication in real life?” ASD – include in
 After 6 minutes, students from different groups will share participation
answers and contribute to a whole class discussion
Exit Slip and Clean-Up
 The teacher will hand each student a sticky note and they
will be instructed to put their name and a rating of how they

feel about multiplication with a reason for that number
 Clean-up instructions will be given (scissors away, arrays and
graph paper in a pile)
