Monkey and the Crocodile

Once upon a time, there was a monkey lived in a mango tree beside a lake. He ate fruits all
day.
“hmm… These fruits are so delicious and juicy I’m so lucky to live in a fruit tree. “says the
monkey.
So, do a crocodile was resting under the tree.

“The fruit looks so delicious. I wish I could climb the tree and pick some” says the
crocodile.
“Since you are resting under my tree, you are my guest. Please come and taste some
delicious fruits. “told the monkey.

The monkey plucked the juiciest fruit from the tree and gave it to the crocodile.

“Oh, thank you Monkey! You are so kind.” Said the crocodile.

“You are welcome and come again any time.” Said the monkey.

Soon the crocodile came every day. Monkey used to throw ripe mangoes into the lake, and a
crocodile ate them.

The crocodile became a great friend of the monkey. They often talk as they ate mangoes.
The crocodile swam home and gave some fruits to his wife

“These fruits are delicious. Where did you get them from?” asked Crocodile’s wife

“I got them from my friend the monkey” answered the Crocodile

Does the monkey eat fruit every day? His heart must be so sweet. You must steal the
monkey’s heart and give it to me.” said Crocodile’s wife

The next day, the crocodile told the monkey that his wife was very pleased with the
mangoes, and wants to meet the monkey.
“My wife has made a meal for you. She wants to thank you for giving her your beautiful
sweet fruit.

The crocodile told him that he should simply sit on his back and hold on to him. “Trust me.
You will not drown “

During this ride, the crocodile, who was very simple, told the monkey
I’m sorry Monkey but I have to go fast because my wife wants to eat your heart for her
tea.

The monkey was scared to hear this, but he did not express his fear. He cleverly told the
crocodile,

“I am sorry, friend, I have kept my heart at home on the tree. Take me back; I will fetch
it for your wife.”

“That would be great monkey” told the Croc

The foolish crocodile swam back. As soon as he reached the bank, the monkey jumped off
his back, and climbed up the tree.

“Good bye, friend!” he said from above, “your wife will never taste a monkey’s heart and
never come back again”

The crocodile left with empty handed.

The moral lesson of the story of the monkey and the crocodile is “Presence of mind often
saves us”.
