Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP)

 The Constitution lays down certain Directive Principles of


State Policy, which are 'fundamental in governance of the
country'.

 These principles are contained in Part IV (Article 36-51)


of the Constitution of India.

 Directive + principles + state + policy suggest that these


are the principles that direct the state when it makes
policies for its people.

 It is the duty of the State to apply these principles in


making laws to establish a just society in the country.

 Directive Principles are classified under the following


categories: Economic and Socialistic; Political and
Administrative; Justice and Legal; Environmental;
Protection of Monuments and Peace and Security.

Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections
47 Duty of the State to raise the level of nutrition and the standard of
living and to improve public health
48 Organise agriculture and animal husbandry on modern and
scientific lines.
48 A Protect and improve environment and safeguarding of forests and
wild life
49 Protect monuments and places and objects of national importance
50 Separate the judiciary from the executive in the public services of
the State.
51 Promote international peace and security
