CHAPTER 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction
Vocabulary.com mentioned that “tardiness” is the quality of being late. When people
don’t show up on time, they’re guilty of tardiness. Thus, the term “class tardiness” has been
defined as students coming late, not attending lecture on time, missing out initial time from the
first period and primary not being present in the time set (Malik et al., n.d.). One of the major
causes of lateness is going to bed late because it could result in waking up late and insufficient
rest for the lesson on the next day (Nakpodia & Daflaghor, 2011; Paren, 2012)

This problem had increased from sustainable to inveterate state and it has a important
impact in their school performance. Students believed that this problem had been influenced by
their peers and will be set in their mind until college and their adventure in life. Other students
had depending on their subject related activities grows in difficulty. Reported incidents on online
games cyber addiction noticeable and this usually happens after lunch break. To figure it out,
students set aside their priority to study and learn thus the proponent of this research had to find
out. Moreover, the researcher’s intention is to isolate the common causes of tardiness in grade 12
students.

As the school invest discipline to have a world class products, globally competitive and
well rounded individuals, the researcher had in mind to unearth the reason behind of this
punctuality virtue which is annoyingly, losing its ground.

There is about 6 out of 40 grade 12 Students of Apayao State College per section who is always
late in attending to their subsequent classes.   

Statement of the Problem.

This study aims to observed or know the common causes of their tardiness.

SPECIFICALLY THIS AIMS TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS

a. Common causes of their tardiness?
b. What makes them lazy?
c. What makes them lose interest in studying?
