Preparation and Planning

Maya Schnitzer met all the criteria for Category I. Evidence of this was three formal observations and
conferences by the supervisor (1/27/20, 2/10/20, 3/2/20) and three observations by the cooperating
teacher (1/30/20, 2/12/20, 2/26/20). Lesson plans conformed to the requirements of the university,
including the use of state standards. Assessment preparation included: checklists, anecdotal notes,
rubrics, and tests. Accommodations for diverse learners were present in lessons. Technology was used.

Classroom Environment

Maya met all the criteria for Category II. Evidence of this was by three formal observations and
conferences by the supervisor (1/7/20, 2/10/20, 3/2/20) and three observations by the cooperating
teacher (1/30/20, 2/12/20, 2/26/20). Technology use included: videos, projector, computer, and
document camera. She maintained classroom procedures and management. Gives positive
reinforcement. She created a bulletin board to enhance the environment and unit learning.

Instructional Delivery

Maya met all the criteria for Category III. Evidence of this was three formal observations and
conferences by the supervisor (1/27/20, 2/10/20, 3/2/20) and three observations by the cooperating
teacher (1/30/20, 2/12/20, 2/26/20). Instructional assessment was through student work, checklists,
anecdotal notes, rubric, and tests. Technology use included: videos, projector, computer, and document
camera. Instructional materials were whiteboards, booklet, manipulatives, literature, number lines,
number cards, charts, flash cards, picture cards, sentence strips, sentence cards, worksheets, leveled
books, and anchor charts. She used questioning skills and hands-on activities to engage students in
learning.

Professionalism

Maya met all the criteria for Category IV. Evidence of this was three formal observations and four
conferences by the supervisor (1/27/20, 2/10/20, 3/2/20) and three observations by the cooperating
teacher (1/30/20, 2/12/20, 2/26/20). Written documentation in the form of artifacts (1/27) offered
further evidence of professionalism. A letter to parents (1/28/20) use of Bloomz app, and Parent
conferences supports her communication with parents. She maintained accurate records. Professionally,
Maya is a member of PSEA. She attended IEP meetings, In-services, and met with the school counselor.
Overall

Maya Schnitzer was in a rural kindergarten classroom for her first placement. Maya created grade
appropriate lessons that met objectives and state standards with accommodations for diverse students.
She used small group teaching to accommodate student needs. Maya used a variety of teaching
techniques such as direct instruction, modeling, hands-on, interactive, inquiry, guided practice, and
independent practice. She engaged students through the use of critical thinking questions, hands-on
activities, and Read Alouds. Maya used Think Alouds to model content and scaffold learning. Maya
created a unit on National Symbols. Maya created a bulletin board to enhance her unit. Students
created an individual Big Book of each symbol and used Kidwriting to share their learning of the symbol.
Hands-on learning was evident in math. Areas for Maya to grow are pacing and clear and precise
directions.

Maya had an excellent rapport with the students; since she spent eight weeks previously in the
classroom for a field placement. She maintained existing organizational procedures using the Responsive
Classroom. Transitions have improved and are becoming more consistent. She used positive
reinforcement and implemented the management plan in the classroom. Maya shares the leadership
role in the classroom.

Maya used appropriate written English. She will continue to focus on oral language usage. Her voice
projection and inflection were appropriate for the classroom setting.

Maya accepted constructive criticism and implemented suggestions. Maya is cooperative, flexible,
responsible, and dependable. She is a reflective practitioner. Maya is always smiling, friendly, and
outgoing. Maya attended IEP meetings, In-services, and met with the school counselor. She
communicates with families daily by updating the class website using Bloomz and attending Parent
Conferences. Maya has the ability to be a successful novice teacher.
