Cathodic Calculation
Calculation procedure shall be as per below list:

a. Surface area to be protected

SA = π x OD x Lp
Where:
SA = surface area to be protected (m2)
OD = outside diameter of pipe (m)
Lp = length of Pipe
π = 3.1416
 Refer to Piping Schedule Attachment

b. Cathodic Protection Current Requirement

The total protective current required is calculated according to the following formula”
Im = (Cr x SA x I)
Where:
Im = current requirement (A)
Cr = mean coating breakdown factor (%)
SA = surface area to be protected (m2)
I = current density in milliampere per square meter (mA/m2)
 Refer to Piping Schedule Attachment; Im= 44,108A

c. Maximum Anode Current Output

 The surface area of the proposed MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide Anode) can be
calculated using the formula below.

Where:
SA = surface area (m2)
d = anode diameter (25.4mm)
l = anode length (1m)

 Maximum current density for MMO anode is 100A/M2. Therefore by applying the
maximum anode density, the anode rated current will be as follows:

Ia = 0.0803m2 x 100A/m2 = 8Amps

d. Total Minimum Anode by current requirement method (Method of Mixed Metal Oxide
Requirements)
Quantity of anode by current requirement is calculated by the following equation.
Q = Im / Ia
