I found this article ‘WE’RE MISSING THE BIG PICTURE ABOUT THE
FOREIGNERS IN MALAYSIA’ by Dzof Azmi published by The Star, 15 September
2019 to be vastly educative and very thought-provoking. It cannot be denied that the
topic of immigrants is a very widespread and controversial issue here in Malaysia.
People migrate to different countries in hopes of getting a better opportunity to
livelihood. Because of this, most people choose to migrate to more well-known and
progressive countries to get out of their unfortunate financial predicaments.
Therefore, I agree that foreigners play a crucial role in Malaysia as they help to
improve the world’s perspective on our country, they aid to boost our country’s
economy growth and they also create a diverse and multicultural community in
Malaysia.

First and foremost, the foreigners can assist to improve the country’s image in the
eyes of the world. Through naturalisation of immigrants, we can bring talented
people in various fields such as professionals, sports and arts into our country.
These opportunities are not provided to them in their home countries so they cannot
express their talents. By having the extraordinary services by the immigrants, it will
indirectly enable Malaysia to compete globally with the other developed countries.
For instance, some of the most prominent surgeons in Malaysia are actually
immigrants who treat not only the Malaysians, but also foreigners. With their
exceptional services, even people from abroad will seek the surgeons in Malaysia to
treat their chronic illnesses. Hence, Malaysia will inevitably be recognised by the
whole world.

Apart from that, foreigners will also help to boost our economy growth. The
Malaysian Government will without a doubt only bring in the exceptionally good
immigrants in order for them to contribute the absolute best for our country. This in
turn will help increase our economic state. It is also more financially conserving for
the government as he expected salary by the immigrants like the hard labourers are
not as high as the locals. In addition to that, it will also encourage the locals to
enhance their work ethics. With the immigrants, the competition for job opportunities
will be tighter. Therefore, the locals will strive harder to increase their work standards
be the best, even among the immigrants. With the immigrants and the better quality
local professionals, the country’s economy will drastically improve.
Lastly, the arrival of foreigners will produce a diverse and multiracial society. The
foreigners that reside in Malaysia often bring along their cultures with them. To
illustrate, the foreigners they spread their cultures in Malaysia through their
traditional attire and food. The existing multiracial culture in Malaysia together with
the arrival of new cultures will create a more diverse community in Malaysia. For
example, Arabian cuisine is currently a favourite among the local people, which can
clearly be seen through the numerous Arabian restaurants scattered all around
Malaysia. Therefore, it can be seen that the diversity of culture brings nothing but
benefits to our country.

To conclude, I really enjoyed reading this gripping article. It was definitely an eye
opener for Malaysians to the benefits of immigrants in our country. To put it short,
the arrival of immigrants help to improve the world’s perspective towards our country,
they aid to boost our country’s economy growth and they also create a diverse and
multicultural community in Malaysia. So, I think that Malaysians should be more
accepting about the idea of immigrants in Malaysia as it is beneficial for both the
parties involved.
