Dr.
Francisco Piedrahita,
Dear Sir, we are students at the University ICESI, we want to express our concern about the waste
disposal at the University, because we think that resources are not being used properly.
We have this concern because we have had the opportunity to witness moments when the cleaning
personnel mix the waste from the trash bin disposed for recycling, so this is a proof that the university is
not taking care of this process. To amend the situation, we propose to change the trash bin covers for a
more intuitive one that allows people to dispose the waste properly. In addition to this, we propose to
make graphic pieces to locate them strategically at the recycling points to inform people how they
should dispose the waste. For example, people don’t know how to distribute the packaging of what they
eat, they think that the whole plastic bottles go to the blue containers, but they don’t realize that the
labels go in the green container. Moreover, there are some bottles that simply are not recyclable
because they have two types of plastics.
By informing the student community we will ensure that they make a proper disposal of waste, but this
doesn’t end here, it is also important that the university stops mixing the waste that has been separated
in these containers and consciously take care of the recycling of the university. We know that there are
entities associated with the university that help with this process, but we have to think in more ways to
help, for example we can help to create innovative strategies that contribute to this movement and give
us a more conscious community. If none of the options listed above works, we ask you if we can be
present when the issue is discussed to find a viable option among all.
Finally, we appreciate your attention and your quick response to our request, we hope that together we
can develop an innovative and beneficial project for both the university and the environment.
Sincerely,
