1 Safety Instructions: Read First

The MT500 is developed for three phase voltage and current generation at meter installation,
described in this operation manual.
It is not allowed to modify the MT500 in any way.
Only electrically skilled person (older than 18 years) having relevant education and experience
which enable him/her to perceive risks and to avoid hazard/damage which electricity can create,
are allowed to operate the equipment.
Every person putting this equipment into operation, operating or servicing the system should
read, understand and follow the user manual including all safety instructions. Use of equipment
tools, cables in a manner not specified may damage the protection provided by the equipment.
Also observe the local safety regulation, general guideline for accident prevention, general
guideline for safety engineering regulations.
If the unit appears to be damaged or operates abnormally, protection may be impaired. In this
case do not attempt to operate it and report the defect or damages to the supervisor in-charge
immediately. The test operation has to be stopped until defects and damages have been repaired
and removed.
This operation manual has to be kept close/accessible to the operator at any time.

1.1 Warning
In order to avoid electrical shock or fire or damage to instrument and installations, pay attention
on below given information.
 Don’t apply the voltage more than specified voltage rating for test voltage terminal (for
MT500 it is 300 V phase to neutral), for power supply adapter 265 V phase to neutral.
 Remove all test leads and accessories that are not in use.
 Do not insert metal objects into connectors.
 Always use the isolated safety pins for voltage and/ or line having voltage more than 40 V.
Do not use exposed metal pins or banana plug connectors.
 Always use the test tools only in the specified manner.
 Do not use equipment in environmental condition for which they are not recommended or
specified, like rain, wet, excessive heat and do not leave unattended. Hands, shoes and
floor must be dry while making connections to power line.
 Check all cables for breaks or cracks in the insulation before use. Replace immediately, if
defective.
 User should wear proper personal proactive equipment, including safety glasses and
insulated gloves when making connection to power circuits.
 Ensure that all connections are properly fixed, loose connection may cause sparking,
excessive heat, short circuit and may damage the equipment and/or installation.

3 Meter Connection
This chapter explains various connections which may be occur in meter installations. Here the
given connection diagrams are just a few examples and does not necessarily cover all types of
meters around the world.

3.1 General Precaution

 Pay attention on warning instruction as given in 1.1
 Identify the supply voltage and connect accordingly.
 While connecting the voltage cable first connect Neutral to MT500 and then to Neutral
of meter under test (or test terminal). Follow the same way for the other phases. While
removing voltage cable, first remove phase from meter under test (or test terminal) and
last to Neutral.
 Pay attention to input supply voltage for adapter, higher then the specified voltage can
damage the adapter.

the phases L1, L2 and L3 individually.
After you have chosen between both possibilities, the cursor automatically goes to the
next field. Now select Angle (phase angle) or PF (power factor).

If you have select Frequency after pressing the key, the cursor goes to the field
F:. Select between Synchronously and Variable. If you select Variable you have to
enter the frequency manually. E. g. enter 50 Hz and press the Enter key.

8 Service & Maintenance

8.1 Periodic Service & Maintenance

Cables should be regularly cleaned because dirt will impair or reduce the insulation
properties and can cause the electrical shock or short circuit in wet or humid environment.
Cleaning frequency depends on the quality of environment and dirt. Cleaning can be done
by fine damp cloth. Do not use abrasives, solvents or alcohol. These may damage the
device or remove the text on the tools.
