SOP OF TOPICAL MEDICINE

I. DEFINITION
This form of medicine is used for the outer surface of the body and serves to
protect or as a vehicle to deliver drugs.

II. OUTCOME
1. To maintain hydration
2. Protect the skin surface
3. Reduces skin irritation
4. Overcoming infections

III. INDICATION

1. Use on skin: examples: lotion, paste, patch, and ointment


2. Eye use: example: ointment.
IV.CONTRAINDICATION
1. In patients with glaucoma or other severe eye diseases, infants and
children. Except in doctor's supervision and advice
2. Hypersensitivity
3. In ulcer patients
4. Atopic individuals (hypersensitivity or allergies based on inherited
tendencies)
