Idea: IOT based Parking Management System

Elevator Pitch:
Finding a parking space has become a daily concern as nowadays vehicles are outnumbered. We aim
to uberize the conventional parking system by designing a Parking Management System using IOT
that helps drivers to find, locate a parking slot and guide them as well. By leveraging technological
advances in the field of ICT, our goal is to design a mobile application and Website that will
efficiently provide informative instructions and guidelines to help the users to check the availability
of free space for parking and book that slot accordingly from any device they are owning. Once
Deployed, an improvement in parking space utilization and reduced management costs will be
ensured. This also will result in less traffic congestion to provide drivers a hassle-free environment
with less number of workers in the garage and swift car parking experiences.

Competitors:
Local or district Government of Karachi are aiming toward implementing the automated systems in
order to control the mafia who charged for the parking. The solution to this problem has devised by
the software engineer from Bharia University. Project team leader Syed Ali Hassan said that their
project offers several features including vehicles entering and exiting timings, number plate
recognition, vehicles driver uses RFID card which have the information about the vehicle.

In our Project, Parking Management System, we are offering several features, which are absent
above, including navigation system, slot space booking, specific location of slot through an android
application and website.

At which stage of development is your idea at?

Currently we are working on the hardware part and app development of the project which is almost
40% completed which will be presented to the panel at pitching session. The only left potion of our
project is the website development and some remaining features in app for user accessibility.

Market Research:
The parking management solutions enhance the parking operator’s effectiveness in the long run,
they are costly to implement. Huge initial investments are required for setting up parking
management system that constitutes multiple hardware components, such as system planning and
design, system development, management and coordination, test evaluation, electronic signs, static
signs, communication lines, parking facility equipment, and testing/training, and a software
component. The periodic cost of operations and maintenance is to be bear on an interval basis. The
smaller organizations operating in the parking management space have to pay huge charges for
implementing parking management solutions.

As we discern that the Parking management system is not implemented in Pakistan yet. So there is
open market for all the competitors. We launched the system in the Pakistan in major places like
Centaurus Mall in Islamabad, Dean’s trade center in Peshawar etc. After that everyone will be trying
to implement this in their Malls, universities, colleges parking areas and in this way our project will
become applied.

Value Proposition:
Traffic congestion caused by vehicles is an alarming problem at a global scale and parking issue is
one of its major contributors. Searching for a parking space causes more consumption of fuel,
wastage of valuable time also accidents are caused by abundance of moving vehicles in disorganized
parking lots. Also Searching for parking burns around one million barrels of oil a day in whole world.
We aim to provide an optimal parking solution that will significantly decrease driving time, thus
lowering the amount of daily vehicle emissions and ultimately reducing the global environmental
footprint. The vehicles at parking areas are not secure most of the time So we felt the need of a full
fledge working system that provide optimized parking through which the users find the best spot
available, saving time, resources and effort. The parking lot fills up efficiently and space can be
utilized properly by users. Parking lot employees and security guards contain real-time lot data that
can help prevent parking violations and suspicious activity. License plate recognition cameras can
gather pertinent footage. Also, decreased spot searching traffic on the streets can reduce accidents
caused by the distraction of searching for parking.

Revenue Model:
Our Main System revenue model will be a recurring model exactly like uber in which the Parking
Space provides will be charged for a specified percentage. The main streams of our revenue model
will include:

 Percentage in Parking fee

 Sale of swipe cards for drivers
 Web and Mobile Application Ads

SWOT ANALYSIS:

Strengths:
Smart, safe, secure, efficient and more automated system are the basic strengths of our project.
People can save their precious time and energy. Our Parking management system is easy to
implement and use. Our system provides free of cost and easy access to an application or a website
according to the desire of user.

Our team include telecommunication engineering which are experts in their specialized fields. Our
team lead is having diverse experience in different organizations including software house and has
supervised different Groups in development of projects. He can mange the team as according to his
experience which is diverse from hardware to app development and maintenance. Apart from that
we have dedicated members for each part of the product development which will be integrated into
a single solution namely Hardwar developer who also have expertise in marketing and voluntarily
working for some organizations, App developer with better presentation and quality writing skills,
and a Website developer with experience 2 years of freelancing experience.

Weakness:
There is congestion and traffic problem in our country, people in most of the areas are unaware of
smart technologies to overcome these problems. In-short Some people don’t use updated
technology for their ease.
Other weaknesses include that there should be two different modules for indoor outdoor parking
areas as in outdoor parking areas hardware may be effected by atmospheric condition.

Opportunity:
As modern technology is evolving rapidly in Pakistan, people want ease in their lives which will be
ensured by our system. Our system provides best solution to overcome congestion and traffic
problem in Pakistan. Our system contributes to reduce global warming which is the major issue
nowadays.

Threats:
The concept of smart and advanced parking, which have already been implemented in many
countries, can be the major threat for our system only if the marketplace of our developing country
is transformed into smart automatic state, hence here our ideology needs to be widen.

Goals/Milestones:
 In short term goals we will cover small parking areas including shopping centers (center of
congestion) in Pakistan.
 Later on we plan to spread our parking management system to whole country and try to
build awareness in customers for smart parking system.

Technical details :
Data sensed by sensors will proceed to the hardware module (Arduino/Raspberry Pi) which will
interfaced with web server through internet of thing ( IOTs ) to access website or mobile application.
