Traffic signal not working due to cable
damage
Due to damage to the underground cable, the traffic signal at the
junction of Dhandapani Street and Sivagnanam Street (Venkatanarayana
Road, T. Nagar) has not been working for several weeks. This is causing
traffic jams during peak hours. According to a resident, the cable supplying
power to the signal was damaged during digging of a trench for laying a
storm water drain.

Tamilnadu Government has started a facility through which
title transfers for single-owner property would be done at the
registration office as the property is sold.
Property buyers no longer have to visit taluk offices or village
administrative officers seeking a transfer for patta documents
as it can now be done in Sub Registrar’s offices on the date of
the sale at the click of a button.
This would save considerable time for patta transfers that
normally consume about a month in some cases.
When a property is due for registration, the registration
official verifies whether the seller’s name matches with the
name registered in the online patta, survey number, sub-
division number and the area mentioned in the registration
document matches with the online data, and there are no
encumbrances on the property. Moreover, the seller and buyer
must furnish their Aadhar Card numbers and mobile numbers.
In the event of all documents being clear, the name change in
patta transfer would be done along with property registration
at a click of the button without human intervention.

Stop axing trees in the name of development!
Sir, Thyagaraya

had a lot of tree
cover before the
development of
pedestrian plaza.
While there is a
thrust by Corpor-
ation itself to grow
more tress for a
healthy environ-
ment, I am unable
to understand why
it has cut so many
trees along a
stretch. Some of
these trees were
decades old and
had been providing
good cover from the sun, and controlling pollution.
I appeal to the Corporation to stop felling of trees in the name of
Smart City Mission and other such projects unless they are dead or
hazardous.

Delay in updating EB bills affects consumers
Sir, Recently, I went to pay my electricity bill at the office of TNEB
The person standing ahead of me in the queue could not pay his bill
as he was told that the units of consumption had not been updated in
the system.
This meant he had to visit the office again.
I wonder why the TNEB officials do not treat the payment as
advance to be adjusted once the details are uploaded, especially when

Men travel in women’s coach in metro trains
Sir, I travel by Chennai Metro regularly. It is nowadays a common
sight to see men traveling in coaches reserved for women in metro
trains, though there are cautionary boards on the platforms and the
coaches. Regular announcements are also made at all stations warning
men not to travel in ladies’ coaches. This is especially prevalent during
peak hours.
Rarely have I seen the security staff manning the platforms taking
action against these offenders.
Unless the offenders are penalized, this is likely to continue. It may
not be long before reports of eve teasing and other such offences against
women travelers also start coming and the metro will become unsafe

Automated system to fine traffic rule
offenders

Runners’ Association, Chennai
Traffic police installed
Automatic Number Plate
Reading (ANPR) cameras at
Nandanam and two other
junctions in the city on Feb. 10.
In the new system,
policemen do not have to
physically intercept traffic rule
violators. The cameras capture
the vehicle’s registration
number and a challan, along
with a TV grab of the violation,
is sent to their registered
address.
The cameras were commiss-
ioned by A. K. Vishwanathan
(Police Commissioner).
He said that all kinds of
violations including over-
speeding, jumping signal,
stopping beyond zebra
crossing, helmet and seat belt
violations will be automatically
tracked and the offenders
penalized.
The cameras will also help
trace stolen vehicles, he said.

Dr. C. J. Vetrievel (CMD, Be Well Hospital) told Mambalam
Times that the small, humourous acts by the counselors
dressed as clowns bring relief to the patients and their caregivers
by elevating the mood and the atmosphere.
He said, “Clown doctors are now a routine part of our
treatment for all age groups of patients suffering from
depression. The humour therapy covers meme, funny stories
or jokes and easy indoor/bedside games.”

School students detained for

attacking MTC crew

Two school students were
arrested on Feb. 10 in
connection with the attack on
the crew of an MTC bus on
Kamarajar Salai, K. K. Nagar.
According to the police, a
group of Std. 12 students of a
private school in K. K. Nagar
boarded MTC (12G) bus near
Kamarajar Salai. The door
could not be closed as they were
traveling on the footboard.
When the students refused to
heed driver Manoharan’s
request to get off the footboard,
he was forced to stop the bus.
This angered the students
who got off the footboard and
contacted some of their friends
who came on two-wheelers and
intercepted the bus.
The students then bashed
up the driver and conductor,
and fled from the spot.
