6 PURPOSE
The purpose of this Method Statement is to define the procedure and practice that will be used for
permanent pavement marking at traffic roads and parking areas as define in the scope of works for South
Ghawar UR Early Works & TCF.
7 SCOPE
This Method Statement covers from preparations to applications of standard traffic paints or
thermoplastic paints and glass beads. This document is applicable to all road marking requirement
within South Ghawar UR Early Works & TCF

10 EXECUTION
5.1 Surface Preparation
5.1.1 Examine the surface schedule to receive pavement markings for the conditions that will adversely
affect execution, permanence or quality of work and which cannot be put into an accepted
condition through preparatory work.
5.1.2 Do not proceed with surface preparation or pavement permanent marking application until
conditions are suitable and acceptable to the Saudi Aramco Representative.
5.1.3 Pavement surfaces to be marked shall be dry and thoroughly cleaned before application of the
pavement marking material.
5.1.4 Dust and other surface deposits shall be removed by sweeping, blowing with compressed air,
rinsing with water or a combination of these methods.
5.1.5 Rubber deposits, surface laitance, existing paint marking and other coating adhering to the
pavement shall be completely removed in accordance with the requirements as directed by the
company representative.
5.1.6 Pavement surfaces shall be allowed to dry when water is used for cleaning prior to stripping or
marking
5.1.7 Surface shall be re-cleaned when work has been stopped due to rain, sandstorm or other natural
causes.
5.2.1. The standard traffic paint shall be suitable for application by pressure atomized (Airless) or air
atomized spray equipment. It shall be homogeneous and well dispersed to a smooth and uniform
consistency.
5.2.2. The paint materials shall conform to all requirements with FSS TT-P-1952B (Paint Traffic and
Airfield Marking - water emulsion based), and FSS TT-P-85E (Paint Traffic Airfield Marking
Solvent Base) or TT-P-115 (Paint, Traffic, Highway, White and Yellow) or AASHTO M24B
(Standard Specification for Ready-Mixed White and Yellow Traffic Paints)
5.2.3. Mark all lines and marking evenly and uniformly and define the edges sharply without splattering
running or being misty.
5.2.5. No series of straight sections or lines shall be used to form the curve.
5.2.6. Mark the lines by using not less than 0.5 liters/m2 of standard traffic paint
5.2.7. After the layout is pre-marked, apply standard traffic paint as specified herein on the road where
white or center lines and yellow for the edge lines by means of the road marking machine.
5.2.8. For special traffic markings, apply white or yellow paint by hand spray or by portable application
machines as directed by the company representative.
5.2.9. The road marking shall be applied for the following dimensions and color in compliance as per
the Aramco Standard Drawing TA-807334-001 Rev. 00
The special road markings using portable applicator or hand spray and materials specified herein
whichever is applicable:
5.3.1 The thermo plastic paint shall conform to all requirements of AASHTO and other relevant
standard mentioned in this Method Statement.
5.3.2 Mark all lines and marking evenly and uniformly and define the edges sharply without splattering

5.3.4 No series of straight sections or lines shall be used to form the curve.
5.3.5 Mark the lines by using not less than 0.5 liters/m2 of thermoplastic paint.
5.3.6 After the layout is pre-marked, apply thermoplastic paint as specified herein on the road where
white for the center lines and yellow for edge lines by means of the road marking machine.
5.3.7 Constituents of the thermoplastic materials plus the appropriate of glass for premixing specified
herein shall be mixed together in a mechanical mixer at a temperature between 200 ﹾC to 220 ﹾC
until the mixture becomes completely homogeneous and, in any case, shall not more than one
hour.
5.3.8 Thermoplastic paint shall be applied by a road marking machine as specified and with desired
temperature range properly agitated. The thermoplastic paint material shall be laid on the paved
surface at a temperature of 200 ﹾC to 220 ﹾC to a thickness of not less than 1.5 mm.
5.3.9 The thermoplastic paint shall only be applied on a dry clean surface where the temperature shall
not be less than 10 ﹾC.
5.3.10 Drop on glass shall be sprayed on the paint surface of the marking in addition to the glass beads
already mixed in the paint.
a) The glass beads shall conform to either AASHTO M247 or Federal Specification TT-B-
1325 or MOC Specifications and shall be applied at a rate of 0.5 kg/m².
b) Glass beads can be applied through a mechanical dispenser or by hand in the case of hand
applied materials.

5.5 Finishing
5.5.1 The finished marking lines shall be free from raggedness on the sides and ends and be in true
plane of beads with sharp and straight edges and free from bubbles and streaks. The lines shall be
marked with perfect straightness and uniform in width
11 Application Machine
6.1 The machine shall be mechanical, self-propelled and equipped with automatic laying or spraying
Guns.
6.2 Shall have a speed of not less than 8 km/hr. during application and shall be capable of applying stripe
widths ranging 12 cm to 20 cm at the application rate specified.
6.3 Shall produce an even uniform thickness with a clear cut and sharp edges.
6.4 The machine shall be equipped with marker discs with scrappers and glass beads dispenser.
6.5 The dispenser shall be capable of applying glass beads at a rate of 18% to 22% by weight of the total mix
uniformly over the stripes.
6.6 The road marking machine shall meet the following minimum capacities:
6.7 The machine shall be mobile or spray method and shall be spraying guns capable of laying 7.5 to cm.
wide, and 0.5 to 5.0 mm thick stripes.
12 Quality Control
6.1 All stage of work shall be in accordance with the QC procedure, ITP/Checklist and all related procedure.
6.2 Ensure that the site QC should check and verify the element to be painted prior to commencing the work.
6.3 Painting works shall be validated through final acceptance inspection.
