Subject: Loss of Network Communication and Fault Codes 114 and 115

Affect ed Models: Evinrude® E-TEC® G2 74° V6 (3.4 L) Outboards

Problem
A small number of G2 engines have set fault codes 114 and 115 as a result of an errant signal from a
“non” BRP device on the CANBus network. These codes are the result of loss in network communica-
tions between the engine’s EMM and the ICON II Remote Control and will result in the engine going into
S.A.F.E. mode.

Fault Code Description Condition

EMM detects no communication on the NMEA


114 Loss of NMEA 2000® network communication 2000 network.

EMM detects no communication on the Remote


115 Loss of Remote Control network communication
Control network.

Solution
Update the firmware for the ICON II Remote Control using Evinrude Diagnostics 6 software program.
The firmware listed in the table below is current as of the date of this bulletin.

IMPORTANT: If the installation of a new engine and remote control, or installation of a replacement re-
mote control results in an intermittent display of fault codes 114 and 115, the firmware in the remote con-
trol must be updated.

Procedure
Use the MPI-2 Data Link, P/N 766690 (or P/N 767994) and adapter cable, P/N 767431, to connect the
laptop with Evinrude Diagnostics 6 software program to the NMEA 2000 network.
IMPORTANT: Log into BOSSWeb and update to Evinrude Diagnostics 6 to version 6.2.20012 or higher
before verifying and updating the firmware in the ICON II Remote Control.

Verify the part number of firmware in the ICON II Remote Control.

Turn the key switch to the ON position and then start Evinrude Diagnostics 6.

After Evinrude Diagnostics 6 connects to the network, select the remote control from the device list.

Once Evinrude Diagnostics 6 connects to the remote control, select the Identification button to view the
part number for the firmware. If part number for the firmware is a lower version than what is listed in the
table of this bulletin, the firmware must be updated.

Select the Software button. Then select the Load Program button.

A pop-up window will appear. Navigate to the Calibration files folder, then select the Remote Control
folder. When the folder opens, select the correct software (firmware) from the list. Then follow the
on-screen prompts to install the software into the remote control.

Watch the progress bar for the software update. The control head will “reboot” once the software is
updated.

Reconnect to remote control and then select the Identification button to verify the correct firmware part
number has been installed. After the correct software is installed, turn the key switch to the OFF position
to complete the process.
