Storm Mountain by Heidi Kirrmaier Feb 2013 PDF
The finished sizes shown above are based on 2x the width of the back. The fronts overlap when laid flat. It is intended to fit
with approximately 0 to +5 cm (0 to +2 inches) of ease based on these sizes. Please refer to diagram below for more
detailed measurements.
MATERIALS:
• DK weight yarn, in the following quantity (shown in Rowan Felted Tweed, colour 177 'clay'):
yards 1200 1300 1400 1500 1575 1650 1780 1880 1950
metres 1100 1190 1280 1375 1440 1510 1630 1720 1785
• 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needle (80 to 120 cm long), or size to obtain gauge (=main needle)
• 3.0 mm / US 2 ½ needle, or one size smaller than main needle
• 4 stitch markers
• waste yarn
GAUGE (blocked): 22 sts and 30 rows / 10 cm (4 inches)
NOTES:
The cardigan is worked from the top down, with raglan shaping for the sleeves, and eyelet increases for the back. After
reaching the underarms, the back eyelet increases continue for the length of the body, and the front sections are decreased
at the same time. A slipped stitch edge (SSE) is worked over 4 sts along each side of the front opening of the entire
cardigan. SSE creates a neat, firm edge that limits curling and prevents stretching lengthwise. If you prefer not to use SSE,
you can replace it with a simple 1x1 rib over 4 sts.
Where bolded letters (e.g. A, B, C) or words (e.g. Sleeve sts) are used in the instructions, please refer to the next table o fill
in the number. Abbreviations are provided at the end of the pattern.
Slipped stitch edge (SSE):
Last 4 sts of RS row: p1, wyib slip1 purlwise, p1, wyib lift the bar between the needles onto the right needle so the left side
of it is at the front, wyib slip last st knitwise.
First 4 sts of WS row: p tog the first st and the loop* created by lifting the bar, k1, p1, k1.
Last 4 sts of WS row: k1, p1, k1, wyif lift the bar between the needles onto the right needle so the right side of it is at the
front, wyif slip last st purlwise.
First 4 sts of RS row: k tog tbl the first st and the loop* created by lifting the bar, p1, wyib slip 1 purlwise, p1.
*The loop does not count as a stitch.
Row 1 (RS): k1, p1, k1, p1, k to last 4 sts, SSE (last 4 sts of RS row).
Row 2 (WS): SSE (first 4 sts of WS row), k to last 4 sts, SSE (last 4 sts of WS row).
Row 3 (RS): SSE (first 4 sts of RS row), k to last 4 sts, SSE (last 4 sts of RS row).
Row 4 (WS): as Row 2.
Row 5 (RS): as Row 3.
Row 6 (WS): SSE, p to last 4 sts, SSE.
Continue working collar in st st with SSE until it measures 8 cm from CO edge, ending with WS row.
Next row (RS) (yoke set up): SSE, k Front sts, pm (left front), k Sleeve sts, pm (left back), kA, p2, *k4, p2; repeat from * 4
more times, kA, pm (right back), k Sleeve sts, pm (right front), k Front sts, SSE.

Next row (WS): SSE, p to second m (right back), sm, p A, k2, *p4, k2; repeat from * 4 more times, pA, p to last 4 sts, SSE.
The last 2 rows establish the rib patt over the back sts.

Work SET 1 2 3 4 1 1 1 0 1 1 times,
then work SET 2 4 5 5 6 6 6 8 8 8 times.
Then work the first 2 rows of SET 2 once more for all sizes.
Right Sleeve
Move right sleeve sts (between right back and right front markers) onto main needle, and leave remaining sts on waste yarn.
Follow instructions above from * to ** to complete the right sleeve.
Body
Move remaining sts onto main needle.
Note: SSE continues along front edges as est during yoke for the entire body. Front sts and the new sts picked up under the arms
are worked in st st. Back sts continue in est rib patt with eyelet incs.
Row 1 (RS): with yarn still attached to left front, work left front sts in est patt, pm (left front), pick up and k C sts from left
sleeve, pm (left back), work back sts in est rib patt, pm (right back), pick up and k C sts from right sleeve, pm (right front),
work right front st in est patt.
