POWER PLANT DESIGN

ME 514: Power Plant Design

Credit: 5 units
Course Description

The course on Power Plant Design covers the theoretical study of the engineering aspects in the design and installation of power plants that are generally employed
for power generation in the Philippines, starting from load analysis, economics, determination of capacity, electric energy rates, the various types of power plants
utilizing the energy sources and their components/auxiliaries.

This course is to be taken by upper class mechanical engineering students after the course on Internal Combustion Engines and Steam Power Engineering.
PRE-REQUISITE:

ME 416 Internal Combustion Engines

ME 421 Machine Design 2

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
The course on Power Plant Design is one of the major areas in the practice of mechanical engineering. In view of this, the goal of teaching is for upper class
students to acquire the working knowledge of the engineering aspects of power plant operation and design.

REQUIREMENTS:

Written examinations
Assignments
