Mrs. Kathleen FitzGerald, Principal

FEBRUARY
2020
Greetings My Mayo School Families,

As I write this message, it is so hard to believe

that half of the year is completed and we are
immersed in the winter season of events here at
Mayo and spring is fast approaching! At this point,
our students are deeply involved in school work and
participating in a variety of activities and many of Grandparents’/
our teachers and parents continue to work Special Friends’ Day
countless hours to support our kids! It is greatly
appreciated by all of us at MES!
Save the Date:
Thank you to our Mayo Watch DOGS. We had 34

students love having our dads around. They are a
“big hit” and a lot of help! Reminders from the office:

Safety: When entering the building to visit, volunteer or to

pick up your child please make sure to bring your ID every

Mayo Elementary School is equipped with a video camera system. It covers selected interior and exterior public portions of the building and grounds. It is
NOT monitored constantly, but it is monitored during emergency situations. During certain events, when the safety or security of students may be in ques-
tion, authorized personnel from local, state, or federal police or fire emergency units may be given access to view images projected on the camera system. If
you have any questions about the system, you should call the Supervisor of School Security at 410-222-5083.

February is American Heart Month and in order to promote this we
will be participating in a Fitness February Challenge. Each week we
will focus on one exercise and complete different daily activities to
help achieve the weekly challenge. Please see the attached
Calendar for exercises. We are also encouraging your child to wear
appropriate fitness attire to school (yoga/sweat pants, shirt, and
tennis shoes) so they will be more comfortable performing the
exercises. Feel free to practice at home. All exercises are optional.
Please let us know if you do not want your child to participate.
Please contact April Crovo with any questions, acrovo@aacps.org

We love books, and we love games and activities, so we especially love games and activities
about our favorite books. So, we're throwing some parties! The Harry Potter Book Night will be
geared toward older kids/teens, and the Dog Man Party is more for younger children, but of
course all are welcome to both.

• Harry Potter Book Night (Thurs, Feb 6, 6:30pm)- Fans all around the world are celebrating
Harry Potter on this day. This year's theme is the Triwizard Tournament; put your name in the
Goblet of Fire and see if you have what it takes! Costumes are more than welcome!
• Dog Man Party (Mon, Feb 17, 11am)- Celebrate the popular graphic novel series by Dav
Pilkey with crafts, games and other fun activities. It's going to be SUPA AWESOME!
(Registration required; opens Feb 3)

Additionally, February is African American History Month. We're celebrating with 2 great pro-
grams on February 15.

• African American Oystermen on the Chesapeake (Sat, Feb 15, 10:30am)- Relive the days
of the life of an African American Oysterman. Tie on an apron and step back in time with us in
this hands on STEM program.
Printmaking Workshop for Kids (Sat, Feb 15, 2pm)- Explore the printmaking process by making
a creative relief print inspired by artist Elizabeth Catlett.

More information on all our programs and the link to register can be found here:

Thank you so much for your constant support of the library. Please spread the word and share
with your students, fellow teachers, and parents, and feel free to reach out to me with any
questions. Hope to see you at one of our "SUPA AWESOME" programs!
