CABAL, VALERIE MAE

BGTECH 432
19 February 2020

We had our first meeting today with Ar. Eric Bano. He’ll be teaching us how to do Specifications,
Estimates and Bill of Quantities. The class with him today was fun although I almost fell asleep because I
only had 3 hours of sleep last night. During his orientation with the class, it made me realize that we are
already on the 3rd year of our course and yet there are things that we could have and should have learn
during our early years in Architecture.

He talked about a lot of things in regards with the class rules, homeworks, projects and his experiences
in the career that we are pursuing. It was kind of overwhelming thinking that he laid down a lot of tasks
for us but yeah, it is our training ground and we signed up for this. I admire and respect his opinions and
beliefs on how a student should be taught in the class and how he opposes the “dogmatic” system of
the university. I also agreed with him when he said that to never underestimate yourself. Truth be told,
my confidence with my skills and abilities are very low. I feel pressured all the time thinking that I’m not
good enough. But when I heard those words from him, I felt like it was a wake-up call that I shouldn’t be
afraid of exploring and improving myself. That I should take that process as a learning experience for me
grow.

I love how he turned an orientation into a beautiful lecture full of wisdom. I’m excited to learn a lot from
him. I feel like he has a different method in teaching us. I’m looking forward for a fun learning
experience from this class. It’s a 5-hour class anyway, so we got to make the best of it.
