Realiza cálculos sobre las características de una línea de abonado.

2.2 Descripción de la Actividad

1. Calculate the number of links required to connect together all against all, a total of 500 users from a locality.
Say how many links are required to connect the same number of users but using a centralized switch instead.
500(500 − 1)
𝐿= = 124.75 × 103

2. The resistance of a section of a UTP cable belonging to a segment of a LAN is 12.05 Ω. calculate the length of
the cable run, knowing that it is type AWG26, whose resistance is 133.92 Ω/km.
𝑅𝑚𝑎𝑥 = 12.05Ω
1𝑘𝑚 133.92Ω
0.0899𝑘𝑚 12.05Ω
1𝑘𝑚 1000𝑚
0.0899𝑘𝑚 89.9𝑚
3. The minimum current in the loop of a subscriber line when the telephone is off-hook, must be at least 20 mA
approximately, in order to allow the exchange to detect changes between on-hook and off-hook. Calculate the
maximum resistance per kilometer in the telephone pair, if it is wanted to have a line 8.5 Km long?

Remember that the subscriber line consists of two threads; the internal resistance of a telephone is 500 ohm
approximately and the voltage supplied by the exchange is 48 volt (the resistance of the loop within the exchange
can be considered negligible).
48𝑣
𝑅𝑚𝑎𝑥 = = 2400Ω
20𝑚𝐴
2400Ω − 500Ω
𝑅= = 950Ω
2

1𝑘𝑚 111.76Ω
8.5𝑘𝑚 950Ω

4. Consider a subscriber line in which the attenuation is only due to the voltage divider between the resistance of the
telephone and the resistance of the two wires of the loop. Ignore the impedance, reflection and other AC effects of
the line. Suppose that an AC signal is transmitted from the exchange to the telephone, on a line of 5 Km in length and
100 ohms of resistance per Km.

(a) What percentage of the transmitted signal appears through the phone?
100Ω
𝑅 = 5𝑘𝑚 × = 500Ω
𝑘𝑚
500Ω + 500Ω + 500Ω = 1500Ω
500 × 100%
%= = 33.3%
1500
(b) If two extensions on the same telephone line are used at the same time, what is the percentage of the
transmitted signal that appears over each phone? The internal resistance of a phone is approximately 500 ohm.

500Ω + 500Ω + 250Ω = 1250Ω

250 × 100%
%= = 20%
1250

5. You want to build a rural telephone line and 4000 m of wire with 100 ohms/km and 5000 m of wire with 130
ohms/km are available. The minimum current in the loop of the subscriber line when the telephone is off-hook must
be at least 25 mA, in order to allow the exchange to detect changes between On-hook and off-hook. What will be the
maximum distance between the phone and the central that can be obtained, with the materials available and the
conditions demanded by the exchange? Remember that the subscriber line consists of two threads; the internal
resistance of a telephone is 500 ohm approximately and the voltage supplied by the exchange is 48 volt (the
resistance of the loop within the exchange can be considered negligible).
48𝑣
𝑅𝑚𝑎𝑥 = = 1920Ω
25𝑚𝐴
1920 − 500
𝑅= = 710Ω
2
1𝑘𝑚 100Ω
4𝑘𝑚 400Ω
310Ω
𝑐𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑓𝑎𝑙𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒 = 710Ω − 400Ω = = 2.38𝑘𝑚
130Ω
𝑘𝑚
4𝑘𝑚 + 2.38𝑘𝑚 = 6.38𝑘𝑚
