Headnote
On a night that celebrated everything great about the biz, the 2017 Music Week Awards was a memorable night for
ail...
The music industry united to honour the outstanding work of legendary artist manager Sarah Stennett at last
week's Music Week Awards, in association with Amazon Music.
A glittering array of the biggest names from across the music biz took over London's Grosvenor House Hotel for an
evening of celebration and recognition of the very best the industry has to offer. And it proved to be a record-
breaking outing for the awards
In the lead up to the event, Music Week received more nominations than ever before, while the packed house
provided the awards with its biggest audience to date.
Hosted by writer, presenter and broadcaster Lauren Laverne, the show delivered a huge number of talking points,
as winners across categories old and new were honoured on the night.
The iconic Strat Award was awarded to First Access Entertainment CEO Stennett, whose company manages a
roster that includes the likes of Zayn, Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora, for her outstanding contribution to the industry.
On hand to present the award was none other than Access Industries founder and Warner Music owner Len
Blavatnik, who declared onstage 'If I were to be reborn as a woman, I would like to be Sarah Stennett."
Stennett then delivered one of the night's many highlights, with an impassioned speech that called upon the
industry's most experienced heads to provide a more nurturing environment for young talent to flourish.
'Let's support the young people we work with, let's allow them to express themselves, let's help guide them through
their mistakes," she said. 'To the young people in this room who feel they can't always express themselves in a
room full of experienced executives or who aren't always heard, to those navigating the unchartered waters of a
rapidly changing industry, I encourage you to be brave, embrace your individuality and in the words of my father,
hang on in there."
Other big winners on the night included Syco Music (Record Company Of The Year), Decca Records (Artist
Marketing Campaign), ADA (Label/Artist Services Company), Glastonbury (Festival Of The Year), BBC Radio
1/1Xtra presenter MistaJam (Radio Show), BBC 6 Music (Radio Station) and Kobalt Music Publishing (Publisher Of

The Year).
Tyler Brown, managing director of Syco, said on receiving the award 'We weren't expecting this. We'd like to say
thank you to all the artists - we obviously wouldn't be here without them - it's an honour to work with such talent.
Thank you to everyone who works at the label, the superstars from the A&R department to marketing and digital,
always striving to make world class records.'
Sophie Hilton, head of marketing, Decca Records, said of the company's winning campaign with Michael Ball and
Alfie Boe 'In peaking at Q4 it [their collaborative album Together] did incredibly well, sold way above forecast and
was a pleasure to work on. Its longevity was the key, you know you've got something good when its got longevity.'
Commenting on ADA's award win, president Dan Chalmers said 'We've had an amazing year with Christine And The
Queens, Major Lazer, our BMG deal with Rick Astley and obviously Stormzy. We're very excited about winning it
two years in a row.'
Meanwhile, BBC Radio 1 tastemaker MistaJam dedicated his Radio Show gong to 'everyone that gives me the
opportunity to share music that I genuinely love and believe in'.
'Whatever technological advances happen, the thing people love is the connection,' he said. 'I grew up having a real
serious connection to music.'
The night also saw the return of live music to proceedings, as up and coming star Ray Blk delivered a show-
stopping performance to close the curtain on another Music Week Awards.
