Working in the online business space isn’t for everyone.
Plus, if you’re ever caught up trying to explain to your circle of friends or family what it is you do for a living, I want you to
be ready with an answer. #TheStruggleIsReal
My go-to explanation is that I perform specialized services to small business owners in exchange for pay from afar (i.e. via an
off-site location – my home office). We’ll go a little deeper into the services you can offer and the clients to provide them
with in the next couple of lessons.
To prepare yourself for finding work that fits you best, here’s a short and simple quiz I want you to take. It will also help
you decide if being a VA is right for you.
Instructions: Next to each trait, rate yourself by placing an ‘X’ in the box next to one of the three options we’ve provided you.

TOTAL SCORE:
If you scored...
6 or less? You can become a virtual assistant with the right motivation and skill set. Proceed to ‘Lesson 2’ and

7-12? You can become a VA once you get clear on the kind of work you enjoy. Proceed to ‘Lesson 2’ and see what
type of work is available to you.

We’re SO glad you’re here. You’re one step closer to getting your VA business in full swing.
Here’s your next challenge, which may take you a few minutes to sort out.
First, consider the five categories below and pick the one that’s calling out to you the most. Either because you have first-
hand experience doing it, or because it’s something you know you could rock out given your personality (and the right opportunity).
ADMINISTRATIVE 📂
There’s nothing you love more than an inbox zero staring you in the face. When it comes to keeping things organized
(physically or digitally), you’re all over it.
Spreadsheets, Word documents, scheduling and responding to emails… You love it almost as much as your furry four-
legged friends.
CREATIVE 🎨
You don’t box yourself in when it comes to implementing new ideas. They’re big and bold and you love to explore them.
You’re a master with words, direct response copy, social media posts, writing blogs, designing graphics or lending your
flair to build memorable brands or online content. You’re a right-brained dynamo.
TECHNICAL 💻
Put you behind a computer screen and you’re in heaven. Designing and/or maintaining websites, recommending the right
digital tool for the job, coding (or at least messing with html), building automations, untangling broken technical disasters…
These are all things you can see as dream tasks on your daily to-do list. You consider yourself a left-brainer all the way.
SUPPORT + SALES 📑
You’re all about keeping people happy. You’d jump out of bed each morning ready to rock if you could do this on the daily
for your clients.
Helping your clients’ customers have the best experience possible, solving their problems and offering them services your
clients provide is your jam. And you’re never afraid to close those customers when you know you have a product to solve
their problem(s).
MANAGEMENT 📊
People always come to you when they’re looking for a way to make a project go smoothly. They know they can rely on you
to not let anything slip through the cracks, and if for some odd reason it does, you’re not afraid to track down whose job it
was to make sure it gets done (or roll up your sleeves to do it yourself).
You’re highly organized and have a way of building great rapport with others who report to you. Details don’t escape you
and your main driver is to get things done as efficiently and effectively as possible.

A quick word of warning though – don’t allow your brain to get overwhelmed. 🤦
Treat the list as a buffet. You can only fit so much on your plate (or in your belly), so choose the skills that appeal to you
the most.

We’re about to make an entire industry of developers mad, but it’s time someone told you the truth.
You don’t need a website to get started selling your services. In fact, when you’re first getting started, we sort of
recommend against it.
Why? Because you’ll use every excuse in the book to not do the things you need to do to either build it yourself or to make
decisions about the style, colors, required pages, written content, etc for someone you pay to do it for you.
And since I promised you this would be a guide for you if you have a limited budget, you’d probably decide to build it on
your own.
So instead of starting with a website, show yourself off by optimizing your LinkedIn profile. Yes, you can use the free
profile. No need to upgrade to LinkedIn Premium at this point.
Full disclosure: This step will take you a little longer if you’ve never created a profile on LinkedIn or another social media channel
before. Don’t worry though, the extra time you invest here will definitely be worth it, especially if you don’t have a website already
built (you can/should have both long-term!). It still shouldn’t take you much longer than an hour to complete this lesson.
Take a gander at this worksheet if you want to make your profile irresistible to businesses in need of your services. Once
you fill in the blanks and gather your images, sign in to LinkedIn and get your account (and your direct message trigger
fingers) ready for action.
Start with your profile photo checklist. Once you have all X’s in column two, proceed.
Make sure it’s in focus and taken from 2-4 feet away
Be yourself, show your personality
If you can, ditch the selfie method & have a friend take it for you
Make sure it’s a recent photo and true to how you look today

Next up, it’s time to get your banner image ready. Once you have all X’s in column 2, move on to your profile headline.
Attract the right attention with your profile headline. Fill in the blanks in the statement below as a starting point. If you’re
a copywriter, get creative with how you present it.
Got your headline good to go? Great! Now it’s time to tell potential clients a little more about yourself.
Close with how they can reach out to work with you
Now that your ABOUT section is glowing, make sure to add relevant work experience, skills and accomplishments.
Stuck on the headline statement? Go with ‘[INSERT TOP SERVICE] Virtual Assistant’ for now and update it down the
road!
Again, the goal is not to overthink or procrastinate doing the things that will help you land your first client and get paid yo.
It’s kind of the main goal here, right?!

Dial-up your overall profile when you connect with people who are familiar with the quality of your work. Reach out to them
to ask for endorsements or recommendations, especially if they’re in the same category as the clients you want to attract.
Remember, your LinkedIn profile has the potential to completely replace (or at least heavily compliment) your [future?]
website in the client attraction department. Make sure to spend a little extra time on this lesson and your client getting
will be much easier!.
One last thing. Your LinkedIn account should not be set it and forget it. Your profile can be, at least until you see how it’s
received.
But you should also make it a point to post something relevant to the clients you want to service once a day on weekdays.
Something your ideal clients will find helpful or that offers insight into your personality and/or work philosophy.
Bonus Tip:
Make it a point to reach out and connect to people you would love as your clients so they are in your network. The first step
in landing those clients is showing up in their feeds with your posts.

NO SECRETS HERE, IT’S TIME TO TELL! ��
So you know you want to do this VA thing, the services you want to potentially offer and you’re now out there showing
yourself off.
Now it’s time to tell your lucky dreamboat clients that you’re open for business. You’re ready to help them solve prob-
lems you’re uniquely qualified to handle – here are a few ways you can go about it.
So, when you see someone who’s looking to fill a role you’d love to take a crack at, speak up. Throw your hat in the ring
with a comment and then follow up with a direct message.
3. Become a Super-Fan
There’s a reason you want to work with specific people, right?
You’re probably on their email lists, visit their social feeds, consume their courses and/or read their blogs. If they add value
to your life, share/engage with their social content.
Respond to their newsletters or emails if something resonates with you that they shared. Have a conversation with your
ideal client that shows you’re interested in what they have to say and listen to and engage with them.
That’s how you lead with value and make an impression, long before pitching them anything you have to offer.

And remember, the more virtual touches you make, the higher the likelihood of landing those first few clients.
