DESIGN BRIEF

The Design Collection is the culmination of various inputs imbibed over 7 semesters
ranging from creative exposure and sensitization to technical expertise. In upholding
standards of both national and international benchmarking in fashion design, the
collection should reflect originality, creative flair with in-depth conceptualization and
implementation of the design process combined with technical strength. The focus
should be on good design that is an ideal blend of creativity with function.

The student is required to:

 Design five to seven ensembles suitably accessorized.
 The Collection must not exceed beyond Rs. 50,000/- for the garments and Rs.
20,000/- for the accessories.
 Stage impact must be kept in mind in terms of style, colour, details and overall
impact.
 Keep in mind the total presentation as a class and avoid repetitive styles,
silhouettes and colours.
 Each collection should ideally have a target market and could be visualized for a
specific occasion with a distinctive look. Looks and styles that replicate
existing designs or echo past collections should be avoided.
 Attempt a good fit with a clean finish for impeccable design quality.
 Both the inspiration and context need not be restrictive since the theme provides
for a wide scope ranging from the historical, contemporary to futuristic
interpretations and adaptations.

The following guidelines are not binding but offered as options or

possibilities for reference.
 The Fabric: Development and exploration of traditional resources (materials and
techniques) towards contemporary expressions.
 The Image: Kaleidoscopic images encapsulated in time or space (History) to
more globalized aspirations.
 The Attitude: From rejuvenation to revivalism, from transformation to transmutation, from
the concrete to the sublime.
 The students may choose to specialize in any of the areas focusing on
womenswear, menswear or children clothing. Textiles may be combined with
knits, leather or any other suitable material, while ensuring that the focus is on
the extensive and prime usage of woven fabric.

The collection could fall in any one of the categories:

 Sportswear
 Eveningwear
 Ethnic collection or Fusion
 Sleepwear
 Maternity wear
 Avant Garde
 Theatre
 Childrenswear
 Collection for the physically challenged
 Institutional clothing
