through the product outlet. The machine
may be deployed either in a vertical or hor-
izontal position. It is set up next to avessei,
recirculating the product, tut mayaiso be
used inline, inducting powder during the fill-
ing of the vessel. The liquid must have a
static pressure at the inlet of the machine
(static load or pressure of a pump).
The angle of product inlet and outlet is
variable. The machine can very easily be
adapted to suit any existing system.

In same areas of water and waste water
treatment, production of PVC and sweets,
innovative applications have teen devel-
oped where previously no solution had
teen available. Ystral states that the Conti-
TOS has teen tested by many powder man-
ufacturers and they recommend it für the
treatment of their powders. The power
requirement and the rotor/stator combina-
tion can be adapted to suit different
processes. To date same 1500 different
powders have teen tested successfully.
SYSTEMS FOR POWOER
WETTINGIN HIGH-VISCOSITYLIQUlOS
For applications involving the treatment of
highly viscous products, it is customary to
install a pump to increase the flow rate of
the liquid and the induction speed of the
INOUSTRIAL
powder. Ystral employs only volumetrie
pumping systems that transport the medi-
um in a manner unaffected by its viscosity.
Transport of the product is handled entirely
by the pump. The Ystral Conti-TOS only
inducts and disperses the powder into the
liquid stream. In principle, with this arrange-
ment powder may be inducted and dis-
persed with the Conti-TOS into any flowing
and pumpable product.
In instances where there is wide varia-
tion of the viscosity of the product, auto-
matic flow control für the liquid may be
installed. After induction the product can be
continuously dispersed until it reaches the
required particle size. The picture on p40
shows a typical arrangement of such a pro-
cessing unit für the production of high-vis-
cosity offset printing ink or für the induction
of a filler into a high-viscosity resin suspen-
sion.
The powder is inducted by means of an
induction pipe directly from tags or barrels.
When larger quantities have to be treated
(for example, carbon black für newspaper
ink) the powder may be inducted from a
bulk tag or IBC.
CONTI-TOS: TESTMACHINES
Ystral offers a range of testing machines,
from pilot size up to production scale. This
provides the possibility of testing the appli-
Galionwith the original product and of gain-
ing first hand experience of the benefits of
the Conti-TOS with specific products. SinGe
the Conti-TOS operates inline, independent
of the volume, testing is always carried out
with the original sized machine. This allows
the results (induction and dispersing times)
to be directly upgraded to the required orig-
inal production volume. They are 100%
reproducible.
Ystral offers a weil equipped test hause
where all the required trials can be carried
out with its machines. The main advantage
here is that vessels, mixers, piping, etc are
available in any size. It also enables the
user to test
\
the product with different types
of machines to find the best available solu-
tion.
The company also leases trial machines
which can be installed at the customers'
plant. This allows the machine to be tested
under actual production conditions. Correct
installation of the machine is important.
Tests with the wrang piping diameters, or
tao lew a static head, can be unreliable. .
