Alcomer® 115
Drilling fluid additive

Chemical Nature
Alcomer 115 is a high molecular weight anionic polyacrylamide based copolymer
supplied as a free flowing granular powder.

Application
Alcomer 115 is a multi-functional synthetic polymer developed for use in fresh-, KCl-
and salt water-based drilling fluids to provide:
• Viscosity
• Shale stabilization/inhibition
• Foam stabilization
• Flow line flocculation
• Friction reduction and lubrication

Technical Data

Viscosity
Alcomer 115 is a very cost-effective viscosifier for low salinity clear-water drilling
operations. Its shear-thinning properties ensure maximum power at the bit under high
shear.

Shale inhibition
Results based on the API Recommended Practice 13/ISO 10416 are presented in the following graph.

Foam stabilization
The long chain polymer structure of Alcomer 115 aids foam drilling by creating a tighter, stronger foam, enhancing cuttings
removal and reducing water requirements. Alcomer 115 is compatible with all common foamers.

Flow line flocculant

The flocculation and removal of drill solids can be economically achieved by the addition of small doses of Alcomer 115. The
polymer solution is added at the flow line to promote solids settlement in the mud pit or at a point just prior to mechanical
separation equipment, e. g. the centrifuge, shale shaker, etc.

Friction reduction and lubrication

Alcomer 115’s shear-thinning properties reduce power losses at points of high shear, especially at the drill bit and other restric-
tions such as the pump discharge, drill collars, etc. The polymer structure also helps reduce turbulence, thereby reducing
erosion and wash-outs in weak formations.

Storage & Shelf Life

The shelf life of the product is min. 48 months from date of manufacturing if it is stored in its sealed original packaging below
35 °C in a dry place.
