Description of Change: An improved retaining plate that retains the idler gear in the front gear group of the
above listed machines is now used. Due to reports of failures in the field, the former retaining plate was
redesigned with a new material with a thicker cross section without the hole for the knock pin. The failures
were reported as breakage of the former retaining plate breaking in half and the pieces falling downward into
the gear train causing additional damage and breakage to the front gear group. The use of the improved
retaining plate will improve the durability and reliability of the front gear groups in the above listed
machines.

The former 5I-7543 Plate (1) is now replaced with a new 222-8202 Plate in the 178-6519 Front Gear Group
and the 212-8550 Front Gear Group. This product update is retrofitted as service replacement parts to all of
the above listed machines. This improved plate is also effective with the 3066 Engine (S/N: 7JK57827-UP).
The assembly and hold-down 5I-4936 Bolt (2) is also replaced with a flanged hold-down 222-8212 Bolt.
Also, the 7X-0796 Lockwasher is not used with the flanged hold-down bolt. See table 1 below for
comparison of the former parts versus the new parts. The former plate was 4.50 mm (0.177 inch) in thickness
and the new plate is redesigned to 6.00 mm (0.236 inch) in thickness. The effectivity and adaptability for the
new front gear group is listed in table 2.
