Course Rationale:
Management of talent is often misunderstood as workforce management and as a latest flavor of the same
old stuff of hiring, inducting, performance-managing and rewarding people. While there is nothing
wrong with interpretations, the focus of this course will be different and will encompass our
understanding of talent as critical to success and strategy execution. This will envisage how
organizations are grooming talent, investing in their capability building and preparing them leadership
responsibilities via succession planning.

Course Objectives:
1. To familiarize the students to prepare talent management framework in various business situations
2. To familiarize the students on various talent management functions of talent acquisition, talent
development, talent engagement and talent retention
3. To apply talent management models /frameworks to reflect critically on business specific contexts
4. To familiarize the students to challenges in the Talent management function from a global and Indian
perspective

Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop the concept of Talent and that it is contextual for different organizations
2. Develop different frameworks of talent management and appreciating their strengths
and limitations
3. Examine emerging approaches to managing talent in growth and sluggish economies
4. Building a talent pipeline for future leadership needs of the organizations and home
growing this talent
5. Retain and motivate talent for sustained competitive advantage

Prerequisite(s):
Students should have a basic knowledge of HR functions operative in the organizations.
