Forests are one of the most important natural resources in the nature. The word forest
is derived from Latin word ‘FORIS’ which means outside. Approximately 1/3 rd of the
earth’s total area is covered by forests. Forest cover in India is overall, 21.02% of the
country's geographical area. They includes trees, plants, minerals and all the important
recreational resources. Hence, it is very important to conserve forest as a whole. Cutting
of trees releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which contributes to the
greenhouse effect or global warming. 1
