Operating Environment

1 Operating Environment
It is important to install your machine in an appropriate operating environment. This will reduce the
risk of possible downtime plus increase performance and quality of output.

Follow these guidelines to ensure a proper operating environment for the laser system. Although
conforming to these guidelines will greatly reduce the chance of a problem occurring, it does not
guarantee it. It is your responsibility to provide a proper operating environment.

Ambient room temperature MUST be between 15 and 25°C (58 and 78°F). Operating outside of this
temperature range can have a detrimental effect to the working life and/or performance of the
system, particularly the laser cartridge. If transporting the laser system from a very cold or very hot
environment to the proper operating environment, the laser system must be allowed to adjust to the
ambient temperature. To do this, assemble the system to the instructions provided, move the
system to the desired area and allow to stand for twentyfour (24) hours. This will allow the system
to adjust to the ambient room temperature. Rapid changes of temperature during operation can risk
condensation forming within the laser cartridge and/or electronics and increases the potential risk
for electronic failure.

Dusty or dirty air environments can damage the laser system. Keep the laser system isolated from
any type of sandblasting, sanding equipment, or any other machinery that produces airborne
particles.

Avoid small, enclosed, non-ventilated areas. Some materials, after laser engraving or cutting,
continue emitting fumes for several minutes after processing. Having these materials present in a
confined, unventilated room can contaminate the room.

We recommend installing the laser system on a concrete floor. The floor underneath the laser
system should be flat within 3mm from wheel to wheel. An uneven surface may cause a twisting of
the main enclosure. This can cause motion system binding as well as engraving problems.

Electrical Requirements

2 Electrical Requirements
Make sure that your electrical outlet is capable of providing the proper voltage, frequency and
amperage that the laser system requires.

We recommend having individual circuits for

laser engraver
extractor
water chiller

Fuse rating 16A/25A / slow characteristics.

Please install your computer to the same circuit as the laser engraver to prevent electromagnetic
interactions.

Laser power level Voltage/current Amperage Frequency

105W 1phase 220-240V 1x16 50..60Hz

180W 1phase 220-240V 1x16 50..60Hz

DAMAGES FROM AN INADEQUATE OR INAPPROPRIATE POWER SOURCE ARE NOT COVERED

UNDER WARRANTY.

Noisy or unstable electricity as well as voltage spikes can cause interference and possible damage
to the electronics of the laser system. It is better to connect the laser system to a dedicated
electrical line.

It is highly recommended that you use a surge suppression plugs to protect your computer
equipment.

If electrical power fluctuations, brown outs, or constant power outages are a problem in your area,
an electrical line stabilizer, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), or backup generator might be
required. If installing any of these devices, make sure that they meet the electrical requirements of
the laser system.

It is your responsibility to provide a suitable electrical supply.

DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE SYSTEM BY THE USE OF IMPROPER EXTRACTION

EQUIPMENT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY

NEVER operate the laser engraving system without a properly installed and
operating exhaust system. Some materials when cut or engraved can produce
fumes that are hazardous in concentrated amounts.

DO NOT install forward incline, backward incline, in-line, or ventilator

fans because these types of air handlers are inadequate and
inappropriate for this type of installation. If your contractor has any
questions concerning blower specifications or exhaust system
requirements, please contact our Support Department directly before

Installation on Site

5 Installation on Site
On site preparations before installation

Please note that you need a forklift to remove the Laserati from the crate is it being shipped
in. Once on the floor you can move it with a normal hand pallet truck.

Check to see if the doors in your building are large enough to get the machine through. The
crate in which the machine will be shipped has got the following dimensions: 1550 x 980 x
1870mm

The machine itself has got these dimensions: 1450 x 850 x 1420mm (LxBxH)

Make sure you have a 220-240V 1 phase power outlet near the machine.

Make sure there is a possibility to hookup a 6mm hose to your compressed air circuits.

Make sure there is a possibility to hookup a 6mm hose to your compressed gas circuits.

The exhaust unit produces clean but hot air. To prevent a temperature rise you can connect
this to the outside air via a 100 mm hose. Make sure the outgoing hose is no longer then 5
meter. If longer is needed you need an auxiliary fan to assist the air flow.

Problem Prevention

6 Problem Prevention
Never connect or disconnect the serial or power connection while either the computer or the
laser system is powered ON. Always power down both units and leave them plugged into
the wall outlet when connecting or disconnecting the serial cable.

Never connect the laser system through a manual nor an electronical serial or USB
switchbox. Using a switchbox of any type can create electrical noise that can cause an
engraving problem or can damage the laser system and/or the computer’s electronics.

Always contact Technical Support for assistance if you are unsure of any mechanical,
electrical or software function relating to the laser system or have a query relating to material
suitability BEFORE you go any further.

If in doubt, don’t do it!

If contacting the Technical Support – please make sure that you can provide the following
information:

All of your contact details

Your system model and serial number
An exact description of the problem at hand, the time that it first occurred and the
frequency/predictability of the fault.

In addition, save the graphic file that you are using when the problem occurs. Also a service file
created with the Job Control will help for checking. We may need to ask you for a copy by e-mail.
Note the exact laser parameters that you are using. As it might also be possible that your problem
is material related, please try to send a piece of the material to us as well. Ensure that it is exactly
(even down to being from the same batch) the same material that you are using when the problem
occurs.

Windows Vista® 32/64-bit (with Service Pack 1 or later) or
Windows® XP 32/64-bit (with Service Pack 2 or later)
512 MB of RAM, 400 MB of hard disk space
Pentium® 1 GHz processor or AMD Athlon™ XP
1024 x 768 or better monitor resolution
24-bit color depth graphics card
1 free USB interface
CD drive
Mouse

Remember that the laser system is an output device just like a printer. With a higher specified
computer you can create graphics and manipulate your software faster and process data faster to
the laser, increasing your productivity.

7.2 Software Recommendation

The following is a list of recommended software programs.

Graphics Software - CorelDRAW version 10 to X5 for raster engraving
Bitmap Editing Software – Corel PhotoPaint (supplied with CorelDraw graphics suite)
Converter software to convert Macintosh esp. and postscript files.

When a software company updates their version of their programs, it can sometimes cause conflicts
with our printer driver/manager. Our programmers constantly test new software programs and
updated versions for compatibility. We will update our software/firmware to address issues that we
have control of. For bugs or problems with your software not related to the laser system, please
contact the software manufacturer.

7.3 Font Requirements

The laser system requires the use of TRUE TYPE FONTS ONLY. The laser system IS NOT
Postscript compatible. DO NOT use Postscript fonts.

7.4 Layout requirements

Trotec software has been designed to interpret objects either as engraving or as cutting objects.
If you use the Trotec printer driver interface and the line thickness (object dimension) is bigger than
0.2 mm items will be engraved. If the smallest possible line thickness that your Desktop publishing
program offers is chosen (e.g. 0.001mm in Corel Draw) they will be cut. Additionally the process
has to be defined for each color.

If you use CAD software for the design and transfer data via the HPGL interface, all lines will be
interpreted as cut lines.

9.5 Interlock circuit

Only the relais for the exhaust signal light has to be bridged! This funktion is not installed at the
moment. Be sure that the other relais are not bridged during normal working conditions.

9.6 Beam alignment

Be sure that the beam is aligned in the right way. It is very important, that the beam fits through the
center of the nozzle. Otherwise we will loose some power and due to the possible reflections inside
the nozzle you may also get a bad engraving result or serious damage to the lens.
There might be a second red spot reflected at the lower side of the laser head, this is just a
reflection from the laser pointer. This spot shall be quite weak, the most stronger spot has to be in
the middle of the last mirror.

9.7 Focus
The correct focus level is reached, when the focustool is touching the engraving material. It is not
necessary that the fokustool falls off.

9.8 Lens check

Check the lens before you start to work the Laserati. If you do a lot of cutting jobs, ensure that there
is no dust to the lens.

Link distance = 15mm
Link width = 1,0mm
Power ratio = 30%

9.11 Dust protection for the lens

The cutting process is the most dangerous time to get some dust on the lens.
Cutting frequency should be set to10000 Hz at least. With less than 10000 Hz you will have a puls
overload at the first puls (up to 375W !).
Links in the cutting line may also cause dust to the lens. Keep them as less as possible otherwise
they will create lots of first pulses!
