3.3 BRAKING AND STEERING OPERATION

3.3.1 Applying the Brakes

The four wheel central braking system is ac-
tivated by depressing the red pedal at any of
the four corners of the unit (Figure 3-1). To
fully engage the brakes, the pedal should be
pressed to approximately 45°. All four caster
FIGURE 3-1
wheels should be locked from swiveling and
rotating.

3.3.2 Releasing the Brakes

Depress either green pedal at the head end FIGURE 3-2
of the unit, until the pedal is in a horizontal
position (Figure 3-2). All four wheels should
rotate and swivel freely.

NOTE: Brakes should always be activated when unit is not in

transport to ensure patient safety.

FIGURE 3-3
3.3.3 Applying the Steering Brakes
From the head end of the chair, depress the
green pedal downward into locked position
(Figure 3-3). Push the chair forward. Both
casters at the foot end will lock into a non-
swivel mode. The steering lock will then
guide the chair along a straight path with
minimal steering effort by the attendant.

3.3.4 Releasing the Steering Brakes

Depress either red pedal at the head end
of the unit, until the pedal is in a horizontal
position (Figure 3-2). All four casters should
rotate and swivel freely.

recommended for transport
and emergency only.

3.4.3 Low Battery Light (L.E.D.)

This chair is equipped with a low battery
indicator light, located on top of the base
cover of the patient’s left (Figure 3-6). When
a button on the pendant is pressed, and the
L.E.D. light comes on, it indicates that the
backup batteries require charging; plug the
unit into the wall receptacle.

Portable and mobile RF communications
equipment should be used no closer to any
part of the Hausted A.P.C. Series Models
and Surgi-Chairs, including cables, than the
recommended separation distance calcu-
lated from the equation applicable to the
frequency of the transmitter.

Recommended separation distance

Conducted RF 3 Vrms 3 vrms d = 1.2√P

IEC 61000-4-6 150 kHz to 80MHz
d = 1.2√P 80 MHz to 800 MHz
Radiated RF 3 V/m 3 V/m
IEC61000-4-3 80 MHz to 2,5 GHz d = 2.3√P 800 MHz to 2,5 gHz

where P is the maximum output power rat-

ing of the transmitter in watts (w) accord-
ing to the transmitter manufacturer and d
is the recommended separation distance in
meters (m).

Field strengths from fixed RF transmitters,

as determined by an electromagnetic site
survey, ashould be less than the compliance
level in each frequency range. b

Interference may occur in the vicinity of

equipment marked with the following
symbol:

note 1: At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies
note 2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from struc-
tures, objects, and people.
a
Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile radios, amateur
radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and tV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environ-
ment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in
which the Hausted A.P.C. Series Models and Surgi-Chairs are used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the Hausted A.P.C.
Series Models and Surgi-Chairs should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures
may be necessary, such as re-orienting or relocation the Hausted A.P.C. Series Models and Surgi-Chairs.
b
Over the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 V/m

8.4 RECOMMENDED SEPARATION DISTANCES BETWEEN PORTABLE
AND MOBILE RF COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT AND HAUSTED
A.P.C. SERIES MODELS AND SURGI-CHAIRS

The Hausted A.P.C. Series Models and Surgi-Chairs are intended for use in an electromagnetic envi-
ronment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the Hausted
A.P.C. Series Models and Surgi-Chairs can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining
a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and
the Hausted A.P.C. Series Models and Surgi-Chairs as recommended below, according to the maximum
output power of the communications equipment.
Rated maximum out- Separation distance according to frequency of transmitter

mitter M
150 kHz to 80 MHz 80 MHz to 800 MHz 800 MHz to 2,5 GHz

1 1.2 1.2 2.3
10 3.8 3.8 7.3
100 12 12 23
For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance d in meters (m) can be esti-
mated using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter
in watts (w) according to the transmitter manufacturer.
note 1: At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies
note 2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from struc-
tures, objects, and people.
