ALLIED SCHOOL ZAKARIYA CAMPUS

CLASS PRE 9TH SUBJECT: BIOLOGY CHAP# 1

Q: Who was Jabir Bin Hayan?

Ans: He was born in Iran and practiced medicine in Iraq. He introduced

experimental investigation in chemistry and also wrote a number of books.

Q: Write names of books of Jabir Bin Hayan.

Ans: Al-Nabatat and Al-Haywan.

Q: Who was Abdul Malik Asmai? Name his writings.

Ans: He is considered as first Muslim scientist who studied animals in detail. His
famous writings are Al-Khail, Al-Abil, Al-Wahoosh, Khalaq al Ansan.

Q: Who was Bu Ali Sina?

Ans: He is honoured as founder of medicine and called Avicenna in west. One of

his books is Al Qanoon Fi Al Tib.

Q: What are Bioelements?

Ans: The elements which take part in making body mass are called bioelements.

Q: Name the elements which make 99% of total bodt mass.

Ans: O, C, H, N, Ca, P.

(key to learn: One Can Have Nice Cake Piece)

Q: Name the elements which make 1% of body.

Ans: K, S, Cl, Na, Mg, Fe, Zn, I, Mn, Cu.

Q: Define biomolecules.
Ans: When bioelements combine through ionic and covalent bonding, stable
paticles are formed which are called biomolecules. e.g lipids, proteins etc.

Q: Differentiate micro molecules and macro molecules.

Micro Molecules Macro Molecules

These are the molecules having low These are the molecules having heigh
molecular weight. molecular weight.

Example: water, glucose Example: Lipids, proteins.

Q: Define organelle.

Ans: Biomolecules assemble in a particular way and form organelle. e.g

mitochondria.

Q: Define cell.

Ans: The subcellular structures or organelles assemble together and form the unit
of life called cell.

Q: Define tissue.

Ans: Tissues are the groups of similar cells specialized for performance of a
common function. For example blood is a tissue having three types of blood cells.

Q: Define organ.

Ans: In higher multicellular organisms more than one type of tissues having
related functions are organized together and make a unit called organ.

For example stomach is an organ.

Q: Define organ system>

Ans: Different organs performing related functions are organized together in the
form of organ system. For example digestive system.

Q: Define organism.
Ans: Different organs and organ systems are organized together to form an
individual or an organism. For example human being.

Q: Define population.

Ans: A population is defined as group of organisms of the same species located at

the same place in the same time.

Q: Define community.

Ans: A community is an assemblage of different populations interacting with one

another within the same environment.

Q: Define habitat.

Ans: Habitat means the area of the environment in which organism live.

Q: Define specie.

Ans: A group of organisms capable of interbreeding and producing fertile off

springs is called specie.

Q: Define biosphere.

Ans: The part of the land inhabited by organisms’ communities is known as

biosphere.

Q: Define unicellular organisms.

A: The organisms in which only one cell makes the life. e.g euglena. Amoeba,
paramecium.

Q: What is colonial organization?

Ans: In colonial organization many unicellular organisms live together but do not
have any division of labour among them. Each cell in colony lives its own life and
does not depend upon other cell. e.g volvox.
Q: What is multicellular organization?
Ans: In multi cellular organization cells are organized in the form of tissues, organs
and organ systems. e.g frog, mustered plant.

Q: Which part of mustard plant is used as vegetable?

Ans: The plant body is used as vegetable and its seeds are used for extracting oil.

Q: Which are the vegetative parts of plant?

Ans: Root, stem ans leaves are the vegetative parts of plant.

Q:Which are the reproductive parts of plant?

Ans: Flowers are the reproductive parts of plant because they take part in sexual
reproduction.

Q: Write scientific names of frog and mustard plant.

Ans: Frog: Rana tigrina

Mustard plant: Brassica compestris.
