INCURABLE DISEASE : HERPES

Herpes is an infection caused by HSV (herpes simplex virus). This virus affects the external genitalia,
anal region, mucosal surfaces, and skin in other parts of the body.

THE HERPES virus is highly infectious and incurable and it stays with people for life. The virus
causes painful blisters on the genitals and the surrounding areas and because it can be passed to
others through sexual contact, it is often referred to as a sexually transmitted infection, or STI.

THE HERPES virus is highly infectious and incurable and it stays with people for life. But
thousands in the UK could be living with the STI and not realise because it’s one of the most
common diseases in the world and can be symptomless.
The virus causes painful blisters on the genitals and the surrounding areas and because it
can be passed to others through sexual contact, it is often referred to as a sexually transmitted
infection, or STI.
Also known as HSV, the virus can affect any mucous membrane - or moist lining in the
body, such as the mouth where the virus manifests itself as cold sores.
More than 30 different bacteria, viruses and parasites are known to be transmitted
through sexual contact.
Eight of these pathogens are linked to the greatest incidence of sexually transmitted disease
and of these, four are currently curable: syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis.

The other four are viral infections and are incurable and these are hepatitis B, HIV, human
papillomavirus (HPV), and herpes simplex virus - also known as HSV or herpes.

Amanda Dorkes, clinical Director at LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor warned the virus can be
inactive.

“Herpes is a common infection which can cause painful blisters on the genitals and mouth
area,” she said.
“Herpes is a long-term condition with no cure but outbreaks can be managed with creams
such as lidocaine and anti-viral medicines such as aciclovir.

“Having a well-managed treatment regime will help you deal with the virus as best you can.”

Herpes simplex virus is categorised into 2 types: herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and
herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).

Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 are highly infectious and incurable.

HSV-1 is primarily transmitted by oral-oral contact and in most cases causes orolabial herpes
or cold sores around the mouth.

HSV-2 is almost entirely sexually transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, causing genital
herpes.

A massive two thirds of the world’s population – more than 3.7 billion people – under the
age of 50 have herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).

In January 2015, the World Health Organisation estimated that 417 million people aged 15
to 49 years have the HSV-2 infection, which causes genital herpes.

Taken together, the estimates reveal that more than half a billion people in the same age
bracket have genital infection caused by either HSV-1 or HSV-2.

This comes after it was revealed the HERPES virus could hold key to finding a skin cancer
cure.

In my opinion the article is good and informative. because it explains sexually diseases. know
the causes and consequences of herpes. Diseases that are often foreign people.

This article is useful for educational sex, because most people change partners without
thinking about the effect they are receiving. therefore I am interested in taking the topic.

a lot of new information that I got, starting from herpes simplex virus categorized into 2
types: herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). and that the
HERPES virus is highly contagious and incurable and remains with people for life.
