UNDERSTANDING GOALS
During this term the students will:

1. The student develops understanding of how to extract gist and general ideas from different
types of texts while establishing cause, effect and contrast relation, through short
presentations and debates.
2. The student develops understanding of how to select accurate information according to the
task, through essays and graphics summaries, showing coherence and cohesion, in order
to get acquainted with a wide range of vocabulary accurately and effectively.
3. The student develops understanding of how to use and analyze language structures
(grammatical and lexical) in order to be properly used in oral and written tasks.
4. The student develops understanding of how to extract and differentiate factual information,
ideas, opinions and attitudes through the introduction of form-completion and multiple-
choice tasks, matching headings from different types of sources in order to improve their
hearing skills.
5. The student develops understanding of how to express and make connections by the use of
prompts, making notes, before speaking, using discourse markers to structure
conversations related to factual information, opinions and attitudes.
