Foreword
Pipelines form a crucial point in the technical installations of wastewater treatment plants. They serve for
the conveyance of the media to be treated and utilised (liquids without and with a share of solid matter,
gasses). Pipelines are to be found in all areas of the technical installations of wastewater treatment plants.
Pipelines can be subjected to numerous stresses through forces (static and dynamic), corrosion (caused
through the medium and/or environment), abrasion, erosion, temperature (heat, cold) etc. The selection of
the pipe material and the dimensioning of the pipeline with regard to diameter and wall thickness require a
high degree of specialist knowledge, above all with regard to the type of loading, the material characteristic
values, the possibilities for processing and, not the least, with the comprehensive standard specifications
and regulations associated with this area.
With this Advisory Leaflet an aid is to be provided to planners, to those requesting invitations to tender and
to those responsible for decision making, for the achievement of professional and economical solutions.
In many cases the proven remedy can be recommended, in other cases attention has to be drawn to tech-
nical documents and regulations in order to develop, from the respective requirements, professional stan-
dards for invitation to tender and for the implementation in the plant construction.
