NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

Electricity is an energy mostly used by people in the world. The way to

produce electricity is to rotate the turbine. To rotate the turbine requires energy

and usually the energy used as turbine rotator is fosil fuel. Unfortunatelly fosil

fuel in the future will be ran out, so we need a renewable energy is a way out of

that problem and one of the most advantageous of it is nuclear energy.

Nuclear energy is the energy in the nucleus, or core, of an atom. Atoms are

tiny units that make up all matter in the universe, and energy is what holds the

nucleus together. There is a huge amount of energy in an atom's dense nucleus. In

fact, the power that holds the nucleus together is officially called the "strong

force." Nuclear energy can be used to create electricity, but it must first be

released from the atom. In the process of nuclear fission, atoms are split to release

that energy.

A nuclear reactor, or power plant, is a series of machines that can control

nuclear fission to produce electricity. The fuel that nuclear reactors use to produce

nuclear fission is pellets of the element uranium. In a nuclear reactor, atoms of

uranium are forced to break apart. As they split, the atoms release tiny particles
called fission products. Fission products cause other uranium atoms to split,

starting a chain reaction. The energy released from this chain reaction creates

heat.

The heat created by nuclear fission warms the reactor's cooling agent. A

cooling agent is usually water, but some nuclear reactors use liquid metal or

molten salt. The cooling agent, heated by nuclear fission, produces steam. The

steam turns turbines, or wheels turned by a flowing current. The turbines rotate

generators, or engines that create electricity.

Nuclear power plant have many advantages. There are efficient energy,

not producing pollutant particle, and has high level of safety. Nuclear power plant

can cogeneration, it make more efficient because reusing waste heat. Waste heat

will used to boiling water again, so that energy is not wasted and more electricity

from power plant. This factor can reducing fuel cost. Cogeneration requires less

fuel than separate heat and power generation, to produce a given energy output.

Cogeneration also avoids transmission and distribution loses that occur when

electricity travels over power lines from central generating units. “Cogeneration

could increase the overall thermal efficiency of a nuclear power plant by more

than 30% by reusing waste heat and could decrease the environmental of heating

and transport by up to 35%.” Said IAEA Senior Nuclear Engineer Ibrahim

Khamis.

Pollutantt particle have huge impact for people, it will disturbing people

health. Particle pollution is a mixture of microscopic solids and liquid droplets

suspended in air. This pollution, also known as particulate matter, is made up of a

number of components, including acids organic chemicals, metals, soil or dust

particles, and allergens. it can make desease and failure sistem body if people get

contact with pollutant particle. Nuclear power plant not producing pollutant

particle, because nuclear power plant not using burning process to boil the water,

but it using uranium or plutonium reaction, and it will create heat to boil the

water. So, there is no carbon emission. Unlike fossil fuel-fired power plants,

nuclear reactors do not produce air pollution or carbon dioxide while operating.

”All forms of energy generation emit some carbon dioxide. Coal and gas power

stations emit considerable amounts, but nuclear power plants emit virtually zero.”

Said Ron Cameron Chief of Operations ANSTO.

People want the safety power plant to avoid the risk that will affect them.

Nuclear power plant has high safety. All activities involving the use of radioactive

material require careful attention to safety. Safety is aimed at preventing

accidents. Nuclear power plants are designed and licensed under an approach to

safety called “defense-in-depth.” The key is multiple independent layers of

protection. No single safety layer is exclusively relied upon, no matter how strong

it may be. Multiple physical barriers protect against an accidental radiation

release, such as the rods that encase the uranium fuel used to power nuclear

plants, the reactor that contains the rods and the steel-reinforced concrete building

that houses the reactor. Because it has been secured by a dome to avoid nuclear

radiation when the radiation is caused by technical errors or natural disasters.

“Despite nuclear energy’s good safety record, a lact of public confidence and trust

in some countries is retricting its developement. Nuclear energy has one of the

lowest overal impact on human health and the environment.” Said director general

of the world nuclear association, Agneta Rising.

That are several advantages using nuclear power plant for replacement

energy. One of advantage is nuclear power plant not producing pollution. Using

nuclear power plant is a good solution to reduce pollution and reduce the use of

fossil fuels. Beside that, we can get benefits that other power plants do not have.

This plant is very superior compare to all other power plants. If Indonesia use

nuclear power plant, Indonesia will have more electricity reserves and reduce

pollution generated by power plants like Phyton power plant. This power plant

using coas as fuel, so many pollution created by this power plant.
