Should meat be banned?

Recent decades have brought about new philosophical ideas, especially in

the philosophical thinking and works of the Western world. Nowadays, when
the hardship(?) appears to be gone, there are many individuals who think that
certain ideas like vegetarianism will bring nothing but progress to the human
species. In this context, it has been questioned whether we should ban all meat
dishes from the canteen or not. In this essay I will discuss two possible
approaches to this problem.

The first option to consider is that being a vegetarian does not necessarily
mean you become a healthier person. Adopting a diet exclusively based on fruit
and vegetables for the rest of your life may actually lead to some serious
nutritional deficiencies. For instance, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-
12 and folate are some of the main nutriments a vegetarian diet lacks. Eating
meat is natural and we should decide on our own if we want to consume meat
products or not.

A second query regarding this issue is whether eating meat means

violating animal rights. I totally disagree with this belief! People have been
growing animals and eating animal products for ages without even thinking of
animal rights. Ironically, humans started to care about them after they found
themselves surrounded by hundreds of markets and supermarkets where they
could easily buy thousands of bio products or animal products substitutes.

To sum up, I strongly believe that banning meat from the canteen is
definitely not the best choice for everyone. Being a vegetarian should be a
choice of our own, not something imposed by others.
